“Nice hotel”

This was my first visit to this property. The lobby and public areas are very nice and the staff is very nice. The problem is some times they are missing. I stopped by the bar and waited 12 minutes before anyone showed. The rooms are very nice and good sized.

I have stayed at this hotel five times before and this was the best stay I have had. Its clean, the rooms are a good size and its location to the airport is excellent. I have had no problems on any of my visits with the hotel shuttle, unlike a previous traveller. Perhaps the shuttle company was just having a bad day :-)

Room Tip: If you like a quieter room ask for one at the rear of the hotel.

This is a very nice hotel. Clean. Plush. Feels like a spa. Close to the airport. My only negative comment is about getting their shuttle from the airport. It took much longer than we had expected. I called the hotel and they said it would be 20-30 minutes. After 35 minutes of waiting we hopped on another shuttle to the hotel next door and walked over with our bags.

Room Tip: I had a lovely room without asking.

If you have a rental car of a little extra time, stay at a place in Venice or some other location within 20 minutes of LAX. If you only have a few hours between flights, the Renaissance is a pretty good choice. Aside from some crushed peanuts on the floor next to the bed (negligent housekeeping), I have no complaints: friendly, efficient service at the front desk, a large, comfortable room with a bathtub (shallow, American style) and king size bed (no extra charge), quiet and congenial. I only had a few hours to sleep and clean up while going from Europe to New Zealand and it served its purpose well (except for dirty feet from the peanuts). Had I had the time to complain about the poor housekeeping, i am confident that they would have sent the maid. Sadly, I did not.

Room Tip: Check the room for cleanliness before you move in.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast in the lounge was fine (we arrived too late for evening appetizers). I've stayed at many different properties at LAX and feel that this hotel can do much better. I requested some items be sent to the room and they never arrived. Our wake up call didn't come. Luckily, I set a cell phone alarm for 5:15 a.m. so I know the phone didn't ring.

Otherwise, the front desk staff were excellent, the valet was prompt and the shuttle service got us to the terminal in fairly quick fashion. Last night we stayed in the Marriott nearby on our return and, although the property isn't as stylish as the Renaissance, it provided superior service.

It was a pleasure from valet to check in to room to lounge to dinner.
All the staff was friendly and helpful.
The buffet breakfast was complete with fruit, omelets, pasties.
The location works for LAX and is easy in easy out.

I've now stayed here on two separate trips and both times were excellent in all respects. Beautiful decor both throughout the hotel and in the room, all staff were very helpful (including the airport shuttle driver, the front desk staff, concierge, restaurant, room service) and the bed was very comfortable since it had a pillow-top layer. The room had very good block out curtains and was very quiet. Nice high-powered hair dryer and magnifying mirror. They also provided handy, detailed maps of the surrounding area. The restaurant's turkey burger and baja shrimp flatbread pizza were tasty and so was their club sandwich (I especially appreciate the room service staff accommodating my 11:45pm order despite the fact that the kitchen closes at midnight). I even used the public bus to travel to/from Hollywood Blvd (only cost $3 one-way but admittedly the trip took 1.5 hours through some rather sad looking neighborhoods). I've stayed at a lot of 4-star hotels and this one is THE best value I've had so far! I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to LA.
