My sis and I stayed here 3 nights for a long weekend, returning home yesterday. After doing much research, I chose the package with this hotel because I liked the fact it was close to the airport.
We had no problems! Some of the reviews were horrible, and we were a little freaked. But I think those reviews really boiled down to the fact that some people like to complain about everything. Sure, the bathroom sinks and showers are a little worn around the drains. Big deal! Water runs there on a regular basis. Our room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping left plenty of towels everyday (more than we could use), obviously cleaned the shower everyday (our bottles were always moved), and even folded the facial tissue into a rose every time they came to service the room.
The large flat-screen TVs, updated carpeting, and tasteful furniture did not even hint at what some people referred to as a “dated” hotel. The bar/restaurant staff was excellent both nights we were there—efficient and very friendly. The $15 steak sandwich was gross and left a lot to be desired but that was the only negative. Even though the valet is contracted out, the staff was friendly there as well.
We were in town for a writing workshop, but still drove all around Melrose, Santa Monica, Sunset, Hollywood, Wilshire, etc. The complaints that the hotel wasn’t close to anything didn’t seem to affect us either, as most places we went were no more than 20 minutes away (assuming there wasn’t a great deal of traffic).
I’ve traveled all over the world, staying in 5 star resorts where the service is impeccable so I have high standards. I have no complaints about the Renaissance Montura—much nicer than I would expect for an airport hotel.
