“Great location, wonderful staff, comfortable beds.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Staff is really great. Water pressure in shower not wonderful but not terribe.Bed was very comfortable. Internet was reliable. Didn't try amenities but the menu looked good and, had I stayed longer, I'm sure I would have tried something. I would have liked a chair in the room so I didn't have to watch TV from the bed.

Thank you for your review of your stay .... It appears that you were staying in the hotel during one of our recent upgrade projects that temporarily effected the hotel's water pressure. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but are pleased to hear that we still manged to make your stay enjoyable.

We had a horrible experience at this hotel. There were some errors on the hotel's part, and to top off the several mistakes, the staff was NOT accommodating or apologetic. They all had an attitude like "sorry about your bad luck... next!" We reserved a room for 4 adult women, with 2 queen beds. We were booted out once the hotel filled up because a handicapped person took our handicapped accessible room - error 1. We were sent to a room with one bed - error 2. We requested 2 rollaways, and they promised the rollaway cots by the time we would return to our room after a night out. We returned after midnight to find ONE cot - error 3, I called and they said it was a "fire hazard" to have 2 cots in any room there. That information would've been nice when, let's say, we were CHECKING IN. If they had told us that in the first place, we would've went elsewhere to spend the night! One person had to sleep on the floor, in a $300/night hotel room. That is completely unnacceptable. The staff was very rude about every mistake they made. They had our credit card and would charge it anyway so they knew they had our money no matter what.

The rooms are extremely tiny too! I've been to one bed Holiday Inn rooms that were much more spacious.

Don't stay here!! You can be booted out if a handicapped person needs a room, without any warning. They will then make you empty promises to "fix" the situation. The cleanliness was okay but it's obviously an old place due to outlets in the walls not working, and other broken things around the hotel. It's WAY overpriced for the crappy service, and broken amenities. Go elsewhere for a peaceful and respectful stay!

Room Tip: Make sure to bring your own blankets if you stay here! You might be switched rooms and they don'...

Thank you for your candid feedback about a recent stay.

Let me start by sincerely apologizing if you felt that our staff was unappreciative of the challenges, our staff is normally the best part of a guest stay and try to do their best to meet our guest needs.

After some research it appears that your reservation was made through a 3rd party opaque channel, we do our best to accommodate the specific room type requests from these types of booking channel’s, however since they do not have access to our minute to minute inventory, there are times when room types are promised even though they are not available in actuality.

Based on your comments it does appear that we did try to initially make the best of a bad situation with your first room assignment, unfortunately due to ADA laws we must utilize our accessible rooms for truly ability challenged guests.

It is disappointing to hear that you were not informed of the space challenges with the request for a 2nd roll-away, as the refusal to accommodate that request is actually in protection of your safety in case of an emergency, but your expectation should have been managed correctly initially by our staff.

Your comments have been reviewed with all departments and will be used for improvement in future guest stays.

The hotel itself is fine. It has a boutique atmosphere and the requisite small rooms, furnished with a bed, a TV, and a desk with chair. The bathroom is good sized with a decent countertop area. Amenities include soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, swabs and cotton balls. There are also nice white bathrobes.

As the title implies we booked a Romance package. I won't go into a litany of complaints but the hotel failed rather badly in delivering what the package described. I would not recommend it.

For business travel the hotel will do nicely. Parking is extremely expensive at $40/day, but if you're staying here you're probably not driving. Note that if you arrive after 6pm, you can park in the building next door for $24. If you're visiting a company in the financial district, you'll be an easy couple of blocks away. If you're going to be walking to Bunker Hill - the Wells Fargo Center, or the 3rd Street area - it's an easy distance, but be prepared to walk up a short but steep hill.

The restaurant had very good food but a very small menu, offering only four entrees. Service was as good as it needed to be, no more.

Thank you for choosing to spend Valentine's with us. However we are disappointed to hear that we did not deliver on your expectations of the Roses & Romance package. Normally this is one of our most popular packages.

Our restaurant does offers a wide variety of options, however due to the volume of guest dining with us for Valentine's, we did decide to offer a limited menu in an effort to deliver of our service levels with the large number of diners.

I do apologize that we did not meet your expectations and hope that you will give us another opportunity to "wow" you !

Great location, excellent service (especially front desk). Rooms were small, but well furnished. Breakfast was great (if a bit pricey). Walk down one block to Industriel for a memorable downtown LA dinner.

The rooms were small and basically furnished, twice the price of other hotels and less than half the standard. There were bulbs missing, robes missing, very basic toiletries - not even a shower gel just soap! Our first room was so awful they moved us and the next room, although a little larger, smelled of cigarette smoke, had damp windows and very noisy ineffective heating hence it was cold. Maintenance failed to put the heating right. The restaurant was also cold due to the wind blowing through the entrance doors which had no porch. Basic bedding, basic everything except the staff that were exceptional. Very eager to help and serve, a credit to any company. Unfortunately they had an unsuitable building to deal with. I felt cheated out of a lot of money even having been given a large discount.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

Thank you so much for your candid feedback about your recent stay.

Although it appear our hard products did not meet your expectations, it was gratifying to hear that our staff exceeded your expectations.

We have reviewed you comments with our maintenance and housekeeping staff to ensure these types of challenges do not occur again. It was also disappointing to hear that your did not enjoy the hotels amenities, we are proud to offer Peter Thomas Roth which is a high respected brand.

I like a room temperature of 68 degrees (approx) while sleeping. I set the A/C for 68 degrees, but it shut off automatically around 2:00 a.m. and was obviously programmed to remain off (in spite of my efforts).

A leaky faucet in the sink was repaired, but thereafter there was no hot water at all in the sink.

The room smelled of cigarette smoke.

Thank you so much for your candor regarding a recent stay.

Based on your comments, it appears that you stayed with us while a maintenance project was occurring. In an effort to cause the least impact to our guest enjoyment, we conduct many projects in the overnight hours when most guests are sleeping and will suffer the least impact.

We truly hope that if your travels bring you back to Downtown, you will give us another try !

We stayed at the Checkers to attend a show at the Conga Room. We rode Amtrak up from San Diego and connected to the subway to get to the hotel. It was only a short walk from the Pershing stop to the hotel. We found several excellent bars and restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. The staff was attentive and polite. The rooms are a little smaller than other Hiltons, but the architecture and location more than made up for it. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was quick and satisfying.
