I stayed at Westin Bonaventure during 3 nights in early October 2006. I first opted for the Millennium Biltmore, but then - given the attractive low fares - I decided to opt for the Westin.
I don't know how was the Biltmore, but the Westin Bonaventure was a solid 4* hotel indeed. The outside is grand! You can't miss the 4 cylinders making up the hotel, they are truly spectacular!
If you drive a car, the best option is use the hotel's valet parking. It's a bit steep in price - 25 USD per night - but it's worth it, definitely.
Check-in staff at the front desk is welcoming, always smiling and accommodating. Checking-in was easy as 1,2,3 and we got our room overlooking from the 13th floor the AT&T building. The room was clean, even if furniture was a bit tired and old. The bed was very comfortable, the room was spacious, and so was the bathroom. No shower stall but only bath tub, even though it was very large. The heavenly shower is very pleasant, you should try it. Amenities were provided, as well as hairdrier and double basin and bathrobes. The view was spectacular, overlooking LA's downtown skycrapers!
The hotel lobby was big. Well, strange was the first thought which came to my mind, as it was pure, plain cement. It's incredible the number of restaurants present in the hotel! You can have a bit of everything: chinese, japanese, korean, american pizza... WOW!
The lobby bar was nice, with many monitor broadcasting sport (college football was at its peak). We had breakfast at the bar one morning, and even if pricey it was delicious (try their eggs benedict, please!)
The hotel hosts also a restaurant at the top floor, a steakhouse, famous for its steaks and its view, but it's pricey and a formal/smart-casual dressing code is required. So we avoided it.
The gym club is very nice, on the first level of the hotel, and it's Adidas sponsored! Take a look at the jogging loop, wow, never seen something like this anywhere else!
The Westin has also a pool, outdoor, but it's small and to be honest not so clean (sunbeds are availables too).
I liked this hotel, and so did my girlfriend. If you're in town for business, probably it's an unmatched spot in downtown LA. But since doentown hasn't that much to offer to tourists, I guess next time I will chose such places as Santa Monica or Beverly Hills to base myself, and this is the advice I give to other tourists as well.
I rate this hotel a solid B++!
