I spent three nights at the Westin Bonaventure and had a very nice experience. I've rated it above average here and I think it's pretty close to excellent. I checked in on a Sunday night and was quickly helped by the Starwood Preferred Guest check-in agent. She didn't have any upgrades available for me, but suggested I check back the next morning. I was given a code for free internet access and a small can of jelly beans, which was a nice touch.

The lobby does have a bit of a Disney / Vegas touch to it. Very 80's classy with lots of pools and fountains, including several that shoot water over the walkways (for a peak of this take a look two reviews down where the guy got several shots of the fountains, along with his hootchie - who I would rate as neutral / average). Anyway, you immediately get that large / convention hotel feel from the lobby and it rings true as this is quite a large facility. The elevator ride to the room is very enjoyable as you're transported to the exterior of the building after the 5th floor and get to enjoy some amazing, glassed-in views.

My first room was a bit on the small side, although well appointed. Some of this is the result of the building being cylindrical, which causes all of the rooms to be slightly pie shaped. There are just a few hints of dating, most notably the wallpaper and carpet. The furnishings appeared to have been updated though. The Heavenly bed was great with new linens and a duvet - made for a good night's sleep.

I was pleased to find a bathrobe and slippers laid out and waiting on the bed. This was a nice touch that you rarely see in hotels below the luxury level. The bathroom was clean and well appointed. The one drawback is that the countertops are built over the toilet in such a way that the seat can't remain up. The showers included a standard tub with the Westin Heavenly Shower double shower head.

The following morning I checked with the front desk and was given an upgraded room to a suite. This two room, 1 and 1/2 bath had a lot of space. Again, some signs of dating in the carpet and wallpaper, but otherwise the furniture was fairly updated. The living room has the desk, TV couch and coffee table and a wet bar. The 1/2 bath is located off of this room as well. Both rooms had nice large floor to ceiling windows and great views. The bedroom was about the size of the 1st room that I had been assigned so combined with the living room I had plenty of room to move around.

I ordered room service on several occasions and found that they were reliable, quick and of good quality so there were no complaints there. The menu was very standard for this type of hotel. If you've seen one Westin room service menu, you've pretty much seen them all.

Overall, I had a very favorable experience at the Westin. If you're in town for business or a convention, this is the place to stay.

Stayed here in mid-April, and found most of the negative reviews here to be without merit. Had a very pleasant stayy. The hotel is what you would expect from a Westin. Good and prompt service. Well-appointed rooms and bathrooms. Staff were quite pleasant and helpful without being obtrusive. I agree that the cost of parking is steep ($25) but it's in line with other garages in the area. Contrary to some refviews, the buffet breakfast is $17 -- not $25 -- again not cheap, but in line with what you would find in most any similar hotel. The only legitimate complaint is the hideously overpriced restaurant (LA Prime) so have a drink in the bar -- for the view -- and then dine elsewhere.

Let me say I stay here everytime we goto a Laker game, and its one of my favorite hotels, first of all its a Starwood and all Starwoods allow pets, sometimes we bring our two small dogs, this is probably one of the best hotels in a suburban city for pets, they have great property & grass coverings in the back of the hotel, there is alot of space for them to run around in, and you can bring your pets into any of the 20 retail shopping stores inside if you want to shop with them ( kinda like 3rd st Santa Monica )

As far as the negative reviews on here, these people dont know what to expect, so if its not all they thought then they write a bad review. if you ask me anyone is crazy to have any negativity on the property, staff, and inside rooms, orfacilities.

First of all if you havent noticed it was built by a man who had beautiful vision and dream for a hotel, this is the most amazingly built hotel in California, its all glass outside, revolving resteraunt up top, and the hotel has cylindrical scenic elevators thoughout the hotel, and they are great views going up to 30 stories, a six story atrium, and yes the rooms are quite small, unless you get a mini suite which has two bathrooms. The standard rooms have the heavenly bed and great amenities, the windows are all floor to ceiling breathtaking views of the other skyscrapers rightoutside, and it seems like they are right in front of the window, very impressive to me!

People can say the room is small, but they will never say its not nice, cause it is. Too bad the people who are writing these bad reviews on the Bonaventure dont appreciate what they are standing in, its the 10th most photographed building in the world.

The staff is great, everyone at starwood always is, unless you are not nice, they will do what any other human being would do for you at any hotel or customer relation jobs, and that is nothing if you are being a pain, and thats how alot of these people are writing these reviews, anal!

There is a beer brewery below, its wonderful, there are so many resteraunts in this hotel I could not even try to list them all, about 15. The revolving restraunt up top is the best, it takes about 45 mins to go all the way around LA. This hotel would be any young kid 8-15 year olds dream ( to explore this hotel) You can spend all day walking around all the levels and exploring the property, this hotel has been Hollywoods top movie hotel, they film alot here because of the design sturcture inside. There is a lake in the hotel, shooting fountains, and the bar is in the middle of it all. Usually you see kids riding in the glass elevators alot, sometimes there is a movie being shot and you can get a glance of some famous people.

People say that this hotel is totally dead and dark, well thats what alot of people want! I love when there is no one here, you have everything to yourself, why would you want more people here??

Is this hotel dark, no its not dark.

On the otherhand I have stayed here during the LA marathon, and if you are foolish enough to stay here at this time like I did, yes you will have delays, this is a no brainer people, so check the hotel to see if there is any conventions or upcomming events,

All in all, this hotel is amazing, dont worry about the small room, the windows and surroundings make up for it, make sure to visit the observation deck up top.

dont visit this hotel during any conventions, and you will feel like you are at Disneyland ( butonly open to you and your guests )

I love it like that!

Got this hotel on Priceline for an incredible deal, so went in with a jaded expectation -- something had to be wrong with the place. But it was a fine, fine stay.

The hotel is huge and has a look and feel that is very early 80's -- concrete & steel, dark tiled floors, dated fonts. Think "The Mirage" in Vegas or a Benihana restaurant. Glass elevators featured in many movies makes for an interesting ride up. Revolving lounge on top floor harkens back to an earlier decade. To me, it all elicited a cool retro vibe that seemed to fit with L.A.

Service was good, especially for a large hotel. Valet parking, while $25, was efficient and easy -- never a problem to get my car regardless of time of day. Bed and shower were top drawer. Starbucks coffee in room was complimentary. High-speed internet access cost $12.95 per day, but included unlimited domestic and local calls. Front desk even printed out my boarding pass to save me a few minutes at the airport.

The Downtown area, while still devoid of the late night scene, is emerging as a dining destination and has become a lot safer in recent years. If attending a sporting event, both Dodger Stadium and the Staples Center were very short drives from the hotel (which, given the traffic, is a Godsend). While likely not the place for the family vacation, I found the hotel served my needs perfectly, and I was absolutely thrilled given the price I paid.

My best friend and I stayed here for 2 nights only because we prepaid and would have lost our money if we left early. From the reviews, pics and price we expected a first class hotel. We found the hotel to be dark and depressing. It was a weekend and the hotel was dead. Dealing with the valet parking every time you wanted to go in and out was a real pain. Our room was a 2 by 4. It literally had 2 beds both up against opposite walls with a tiny space between them to get in and out. We were there during a cold spell and the heating unit was right above my head and spewed out stale dry air--I was so congested we had to turn the heat off. On the upside, the beds were comfortable, we liked the dual heads on the shower, and the gym was decent. We will not stay at this hotel again.
