I stayed here for 5 nights in conjunction with a business-related symposium at the convention center. Common spaces are beautiful - very grand, elegant, and ornate.

I would describe my room as "tired" and in need of some refurbishment and a good cleaning. There were no wash cloths the first night, an ice bucket liner was not provided, (and the self that holds the ice bucket in the ice machine was missing), my night stand was dirty, there was a black hair in one of the bathroom glasses, grout and spackle had not been cleaned off the tub enclosure and tiles, I found a black bobby pin on the floor, one of two safes in my room had been left locked (the bigger, more easily accessible one which could hold a lap top) and the handicap grab bar in my bathtub was broken. The repair man came to fix the grab bar while I was unpacking and I shooed him away until the next day. It was not fixed the next evening when I returned to my room. I did complain to the front desk about the grab bar and the safe. The grab bar was fixed.

There are very limited dining options on Sunday evenings - both Sai Sai and the sports bar were closed (and there were two play-off games that evening!). An imported beer at the bar cost me $6.50 but you are given a bowl of mixed nuts (no peanuts) that is refilled. I thought the food at Esmereldi's was very good, but pricy ($12 for my glass of wine), however, subsequent dining in the downtown area at other restaurants revealed this to be in line with other nice dining options. The food at Sai Sai was also very good, but pricy.

My husband and I booked a room for at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles on line for December 31st. We later added a New Year's package (including dinner, a party, and breakfast.) Upon arrival, the reception desk had lost our reservation, and offered us a significantly higher price. (A very professional marketing manager was helpful in making sure that they respected the original, printed price.) Our 11th-floor (smallish) room had a comfortable, king-sized bed. We arrived for dinner at 7:55 pm and left over 3 hours later, NOT because we were lingering over the meal, but because Smeraldi's had the worst service we have ever experienced, especially with a prix fixe menu! Everyone around us was either complaining to the Manager or simply leaving before completing their meal. The food was acceptable, but there were billing errors. The New Year's party following was fun, with Latino dance music and champagne at midnight. Happy 2008, but not to be repeated in 2009. By the way, downtown LA is a great place to walk around.

My problems with the room are; the bed, Room 659 (or 569.. i forget) DID NOT have a king size bed like i requested. It looked more like a full. I asked for a smoking room and could NOT find an ashtray. Besides the shower handles that felt like they were going to come through the wall.. water pressure was miserable! And the toilet.. looked like something you see in jail movies.. didn't even have a cover. I realize the Biltmore is an older "classic" hotel, but i've seen nicer rooms at budget motels. Anyhow, I don't feel like i got what i paid for. In the hotels defense.. I was in a hurry and did not have time to allow them to address my concerns.

Do not stay! Don't pay attention to the photos or anything you read that makes you think it is worth the price. Before I arrived I call the night Supervisor to confirm my reservation. "I will tell you what you what the room will be..just listen" as she barked the difference between adjoining and two rooms next to each other. Very rude. The other comment I got when I called and said that the hotel had mixed reviews online was..."those people should not complain, it is not like they are going to live here."

Management needs to read the comments and respond..or just change the management.

The stay just confirmed it all..run the other way!!!!

Please do not stay at this hotel. I cannot believe they are still in business. I checked in on Sunday night on thanksgiving week. 15 min later I wanted my car so that I can park outside of the hotel since their parking fee is $35 a night. When I got my car back, my car was damaged. They told me to fill out their accident report and told me someone will call me back. Next day no one called me so I complaint at front desk. They told me that is none of their business, as parking is outsourced to different company. Until today 2 weeks after thanksgiving, I still not have received any call from them. I might have to fix the car myself out of my insurance. Very unprofessional and they do not care about customers at all.

Management response from BiltmorePR , Marketing and PR Manager
(Management representative)
Nov 29, 2007
Would like to address this review as I was concerned upon reading it; I have looked into the situation and spoken to the managers and departments involved.

We care about our guests very much - they are our top priority! As of this morning and even before I noticed this posting, less than a week after the incident, the hotel has followed the proper procedures regarding minor damage to the guest's vehicle, as mentioned. This is being handled and all parties involved have been informed and spoken with.

We would never ignore a responsibility to our guests in such a situation, and would like to stress to our readers on Tripadvisor that we have procedures in place for such incidents and do not hesitate to follow them immediately and without delay. Professionalism and service are a hallmark of this hotel and we take great pride in taking care of our guests. I am always displeased to hear of guest dissatisfaction, but on the occasion it does occur, please rest assured the Biltmore does all we can to amend the situation and handle it quickly and gracefully.

As parking is often mentioned here, I would just like to clarify our guest options: valet parking is convenient and available overnight at the hotel for a charge of $32 per night. Self-parking is available across the street at Pershing Square for a lesser fee. This garage is also safe and well-lit.
