“Modern, clean, convenient but somewhat noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Stayed here on a Monday night for a Rolling Stones concert. The location is excellent - a short walk across the street to Staples Center.
Parking seemed to be valet only and was $40 which seems to be the going rate in the area. Lobby is pretty small. Front desk was pretty much handled by one person who was very pleasant and friendly.
Our room, a deluxe king, was very nice. Lots of room, very clean, and tastefully decorated. It looked out over Figueroa blvd and so had a view of the Staples center area.
Our one big problem didn't occur until about 3:00AM. At that time it seems the cleanup crew comes to clean up the Staples center area. We were awoken by the back up beeping of some kind of sweeper vehicle. Very loud! This went on until around 4:30AM. Then as the workday traffic started we noticed that we could hear that noise very loudly also. Anyway we didn't get much sleep.
The sound seems to come through the AC vent. This hotel does not have a central AC unit but the kind that sits just below the window.
A room facing the other side would probably be much quieter. If it weren't for the beeping cleaning vehicle we may have slept through the traffic noise. So if the cleaning doesn't happen every morning then our room may have been ok, noise wise.
So the noise was the only problem we had here. Other than that the hotel is very nice and the staff friendly.

I recently stayed at the Luxe for a conference that was held at the convention center. It is in walking distance which is great to keep travel costs down! Beware, walking there in a suit on a hot day can result in an uncomfortable few hours. The hotel staff was excellent and the bar/restaurant on the second floor was slightly expensive but tastes great. I would definitly recommend this hotel for its hotel staff, location, and clean rooms. PS the housekeepers provided water everyday which was awesome!
The only cons were that the AC had a tough time keeping up and you had to call maintenance so you could lower it below 70 degrees. The room temp was set at 68 and it rarely got below 72 for some reason. Made it for a few hot difficult nights. The other thing is parking is expensive ($40/night) but it is a big city so should be somewhat expected. If you check out and have meetings that day, they will try to charge you to keep your car there for another day even if you stayed there for 3 days.

Room Tip: I heard road side rooms were really loud. Our room was on backside of hotel. Also, ask for a room wi...

Beautiful property, love the decor. Great Staff. The patio bar is really nice. Only thing missing is a pool/spa! :-) Have stayed here 5 times, gets better each time...The Bell staff is awesome, the front desk staff also. They take care of you!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking LA Live can get noisy in evenings.

I stayed at the Luxe while attending a convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Our company employees were split between the Luxe and the nearby JW Marriott, and I found myself both glad to be away from the bustle of the JW, and envying my colleagues who stayed at the Marriott with its grand public areas, restaurants, quiet rooms, and Marriott Rewards points.

The Luxe is an OK hotel. It’s a former Holiday Inn that was fully renovated to become a somewhat boutique-y hotel. The rooms are smallish; I had a two-room suite that was very nice appointed with refrigerator, microwave, bar area, Keurig coffee maker, and two large TVs. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked fine, as did the free high-speed internet. The shower featured a rain-drop type head, and the small bathroom was stocked with nice amenities.

A great feature of the Luxe is its 2nd floor open air lounge area, overlooking the Grammy Museum and entrance to LA Live area. The drinks are good; the lounge and restaurant menu is somewhat limited. There is no gym, nor pool, and daily parking is a hefty $40.

The hotel staff members are all very friendly, too.

Some tips:
• The hotel is a 30 minute cab ride from the airport in light- to no-traffic; longer during rush hour, for sure.
• Book a room on the back side of the hotel. While the view is not a “fun,” the noise level is far below what you get on the front side. My colleagues told of hearing people talking, street noise, sirens, and so forth all night long.
• If you’re attending a convention, both the Luxe and the JW Marriott are at least a 15 minute walk from the convention center. There are no closer hotels, from what I can tell. Wear good walking shoes!
• There are many good restaurants literally right across the street from the Luxe in the LA Live complex. Yard is fantastic for good American food and a great drink selection. Other restaurants include a good Mexican restaurant, Trader Vic’s, Farm, and a Starbucks.

Room Tip: Avoid a front-facing room at all costs! Too much street noise.

Fantastic location and fairly outgoing service. The hotel itself was ok, and somewhat bland for a high end hotel. A group rate of $399 seemed excessive for a suite, but was comfortable. The bell staff was outstanding. Location is within walking distance to staples center, Nokia center, and LA Live.

First and foremost the staff service was very good. Whatever you do don't get a room on the street side, the noise was unbelievable. From the manhole cover that made a bang like a firecracker every time car drove over it to screaming partiers each night sleeping was never an option. Ok so the noise outside is not the hotels fault but the noisy air conditioner that cycled on and off every 5 min is, why isn't there an option to leave the fan on? And having the air conditioner restricted to no colder than 70 doesn't bold well for guests that like it cold when they sleep. The bath mat had a big stain on it when I checked in and the ironing board cover had seen much better days. It was stained a lot and falling off the board. Great location but the definitely miss the details for the 200+ price paid.

Great location in walking distance to a variety of events, restaurants, bars, etc. in downtown area. Attentiveness and service was great all around - from valet, to bellman, to front desk. Parking IS expensive, but we are talking downtown LA here so what did you expect?
