“Not Grand”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2010

The hotel lobby is grand but it ends there. The room is average with poor amenities- no make-up mirror in the cramped bathroom, no cozy chair for relaxing. Internet is extra. The dining staff in the restaurant are slow, disinterested and the food is sub par. Not an above average experience. Concierge was not helpful.

We had a wonderful stay. Courteous service. Indeed, we arrived early morning on the train and were even allowed into our rooms ahead of time with no charge. Will definitely go back.

Wasn't there long enough to make a real review. Room was very nice but the bathroom needed some work.

We were there for 2 nights in early July 2010. This Hotel is in the financial district and has a lovely Japanese Garden on the 3rd or 4th level which is just amazing. Dont miss it . The view of La city from there is beautiful. Hotel has a huge lobby, great rooms with adequate airon, spacious and comfortable beds. What more can you ask for .It is a no smoking hotel . Excellent buffet breakfast. We did not eat in the restaurants as our tour operator had arranged for our dinner elsewhere but overall ambience of the hotel was great.

Downtown LA, mmm, yet if you have to Stay in Downtown Kyoto tries hard and is OK. Downtown is and can be a sad refelection of what LA really has to offer. Chose Kyoto Hotel for a 1 night stop pver and dint want to stay near airport. Having been to LA several times yet never Downtown. Caught Flyaway bus from LAX to union station and hotel shuttle promptly picked us up from Union Station. Front Desk staff were helpful and freindly, Maria suggested options for dinner and gave us directions for various venues near by.

Room and furniture was in good condition and clean, yet styled in outdated browns colors, very 70ish.

We walked ( during the day ) from Kyoto to Staples cntre and back via theatres. ( Drop in to Disney Theatre and join a tour).

Area around hotel is sad ( so much of Downtown is) Homeless are around and after dark Hotel shutlle was happy to drop/ pick up within short distances.

If you need to stay Down town for a reasonable price for a reasonable room then Kyoto is OK. If not dont stay Downtown..sorry LA , Downtown is just sad. LA I will be back Downtown not .

Stayed overnight on business so the room was booked for me based on its location. I was able to take the complimentary shuttle to my destination and the driver was quite personable. The room was adequate although very dated and could use upgrading. The bed was quite hard and not all that comfortable. I ate breakfast at the hotel and the selection on the buffet was good but unfortunately the food was cold. Service at the restaurant was quite attentive however. One of the elevators was malfunctioning and wouldn't go to the floor I had pressed. Fortunately I didn't get stuck in the elevator but the experience raised concerns about the age of the hotel and infrastructure.

I paid $140 to stay one night here. Definitely NOT a 3.5* hotel. On the edge of Little Tokyo and a questionable neighborhood. Expensive parking. The lobby area is nice. The room was substandard. The workout room was dated and much of the equipment inoperable. Helpful front desk staff.
