My son and I were making a quick visit to LA for campus tours and after having enjoyed a luxurious 3-week family vacation in Europe, I decided I would venture to check out some lodging in the less than 3-star range. I discovered the Travelodge Hollywood. The layout is the typical 50's U-shaped, 3-story structure with outdoor hallways and pool in the middle of the parking lot. It was a great departure from what we had been staying in, but for 1 night I thought I could maybe, probably, hopefully tolerate it. What the heck, if it turned out to be really bad we would sleep in the luxe car we had reserved. When we pulled in the driveway, I felt we had gone back to my early childhood. It was the typical retro-motel-style with the big sign out in front. I loved it! The rooms, bathrooms, pool and landscaping were all neat and clean and the front desk staff was very pleasant, and accomodating (unlike other reviews I had read...maybe they hired all new help!) and attentive. The continental breakfast was only muffins and coffee as I recall, but other than that, it was a comfortable place to stay at a cost of only a tad over $100.00, taxes included. I think we would do it again!
