My husband and I have just returned from Los Angeles (on our way back from Hawaii) and stayed for 2 nights at The Roosevelt Hotel. Having (rather stupidly I now think) read the reviews before we went, we were a little worried I have to say. However, all our fears were unfounded and we found the Roosevelt to be a visit of pure luxury. We had a wonderful room, the decor of the entire hotel we loved and every single member of staff we came into contact with spoke perfect English and were extremely helpful. In fact we didn't recognise the hotel from the description in some of the reviews we had read! We couldn't fault it - it met our every need.

They did have some events going on whilst we were there. Some we weren't even aware of and the one we were aware of in no way spoilt our visit and the staff certainly didn't make us second class guests because of it. After all, I imagine most businesses have to diversify to make a profit these days and the fact that they are a popular venue for events surely means their customer care and professionalism is good!

We would make a point of staying there again.

Flew out from Chicago for a birthday get-away with my wife. What a dump. Don't believe the positive reviews, most of them are from convention people. If you want to sit around the depressing pool and watch someone's 60+ year old aunt trim her toe nails, then this hotel is for you.

We tried to get a refund on our reservation of four nights and they agreed and then never followed thru. This is how bad it was, we rented a car, drove up to Carmel for the remainder of our trip and stayed at a LAX airport before our return. Still had to pay for the room at that crap hole as well.

Have just returned home to Australia from a very successful trip to the US. Whilst in Los Angeles we stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt where we found the service faultless and the staff only too willing to assist us in any way. As we were leaving at midnight for our return flight to Australia the hotel stored our luggage for the day and not only organised a private car to collect us for transportation to the airport but also maintained phone contact with the car to ensure its timely arrival. (The traffic was horrific due to road closures in preparation for the Academy Awards.) We would definitely stay at the Roosevelt again - a truly delightful hotel.

I surprised my boyfriend with a one-night stay at the Roosevelt on Sat. Nov. 20, 2004. We had driven out with some friends earlier that year and were interested in all the paranormal things we had heard and read about. We were also breathtaken with everything it had to offer, thus making us want to return to stay. So I looked online to see what their rates were, but I called to make the reservation. I booked a junior suite for one night at the price of $189, plus an $18 valet fee, but with unlimited in-and-out privileges. The valet shouldn't really be that much because the valet staff was average. The check-in staff was very polite. We were given a beautiful, large room, with a view of Hollywood Blvd. that we didn't even ask for! We were so excited! The room had a very modern CD player, a big swiveling TV, a couch, coffee table and chair, a dresser w/ a minibar.. a big beautiful COMFY bed with plush soft linen. The bathroom was awesome. It had an old-time Hollywood feel to it, and it included an amazing shower and a separate bathtub. Now i read a lot of the reviews and everyone's complaining about how the pool wasn't available because of renovations. If you're really going to be that intent on using the pool and/or jacuzzi (like me and my b/f were), find out! All i had to do was go online and click on the pool and it said it was going to be closed. I didn't freak out because I WENT PREPARED. However, the staff did inform me that they had a deal going with the hotel across the street (i think it's called renaissance, not sure) that the roosevelt guests could use their pool. Well, before attempting to walk over in our bathing suits, we took a stroll to inspect it. It was an extremely long walk through very public places where we did not want to walk in our bathing suits, wet or dry. And when we got to that hotel, we asked the front desk if they had a jacuzzi and the woman looked at us as if we were extreme idiots and huffily replied no. She made a horrible impression on us. thank god we weren't staying there. So, yes, we were disappointed about not having the pool, BUT we were prepared. Never assume anything, because obviously it leads to disgruntled people and disappointment. But it can be easily remedied by just asking the question "is the pool open?" One more thing that I should mention. I also read in a lot of reviews about how the staff cares more about any functions that may be going on in the hotel rather than their own guests. I disagree with that but I had a similar issue. My boyfriend and went to take the stairs up to the main entrance that leads you to Hollywood Blvd. There were no signs or anything saying that something was going on. There did happen to be a wedding and they were in one section of the room that wasn't in the way of the exit. But someone working the party(?) ran over and immediately stopped us and said "sorry you can't go through here!" He got right up in our personal space and was very rude about it. We were innocent..we didn't know. So, if they're going to have any sort of event...especially where this wedding was, make a sign. Other than that, we absolutely can't wait to return to the hotel...when we have money..because yes, it is expensive, but it's a wonderful experience. I also have a review about the Excalibur hotel in las vegas for any interested parties.

We've stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt several years with groups. We've noticed that the hotel, due to the changing economic climate has changed its' focus to special events and large events which pay the bills! Don't go near the place on New Year's! You'll feel like an unwelcomed guest, not sleep all night and have no hot water to shower in the morning! Still in renovation the lobby remains stark with little or few relaxing amenities. The hotel restaurant's service and food remains excellent. The restaurant staff is very pleasant and efficient!
Check the airport hotels which offer a more modern setting and much better prices!!!
