We enjoyed our stay here in late May very much. The rooms have been remodeled and are very nice, with a sort of funky Asian look. The bathrooms are especially neat. The rest of the building has a wonderful retro feel--they have done a nice job restoring the original decor. The location can't be beat if you are a Hollywood tourist and the history of the place makes your stay so much more interesting than staying in a chain hotel. My only complaint would be the $18 a day charge for parking, although the valet service was very quick and courteous.

This hotel was comfortable and neat without all the frills. I was a little nervous about booking because it was the only hotel left with rooms on a busy LA weekend. But, I was pleased to find helpful staff, a clean and stylish room, and a great view of Hollywood. The location is perfect if you are looking to walk to dinner or a movie, or just check out the walk of stars.

It is a shame that this potentially great structure has a management that does not do the work needed to run a hotel. We stayed there on a Saturday night in May 2004- anticipating that there might be a lot of noise on Hollywood Blvd we stayed in the cabana (pool) area at the back of the hotel. The pool and surrounding area supposedly closed at 10p.m. A loud group around the pool continued until 4a.m. and kept everyone in that area awake. Our call to the desk which should have been unnecessary - especially with the "security" personnel constantly patrolling - was received politely but the noise continued. We do not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

Sure, you could stay at the more exalted Beverly Hills Hotel, but if you want the quintessential Hollywood experience, this is the place! I have stayed both in the pool cabaña villa and in the main tower. I much prefer and would recommend the cabaña; as the room is much more spacious and comfortable, not to mention quiet, except for pool noise which might be a problem in summer. The hotel is a historic wonder and is strategically placed in the heart of Hollywood Blvd. with Graumann's Chinese theater and other attractions, Walk of Fame within easy walking distance. The lobby area has the old Hollywood flavor coupled with 1920's style architecture and Spanish influences throughout; the hotel dates from 1927, the year of the first "talking" picture. The mezzanine level is a tribute to Hollywood history and is worth a look in itself. The famed Cinegrill in the Blossom Room was the site of the first Academy awards back in the late 1920's or early '30s. This hotel was literally a clubhouse for the likes of Errol Flynn who purportedly invented his recipe for gin in the backroom of the ex-barbershop. Nearly every star has trysted here, including Marilyn Monroe and the hotel has attracted famous politicians and literary figures like Ernest Hemingway. All in all, a fascinating place to stay and good service as well. Remember, get a room in the cabaña area; it's the best.
