We stayed here for three nights in December. Unlike it's surrounding it is a safe area. Prior to check-in, you will be wondering where to park, just stand in front of the garage, there is no real place to unload. After check-in, parking itself is perfect, and safe. If you have any trouble (we didn't) just ask the friendly staff they can help you.
Our room was very large, perfect for a long stay. There was even a door to seperate the second bedroom from the front one. The kitchenette was perfect as well, eventhough we didn't put it to use. The room in general is very clean & practical, eventhough it does look a bit dated. The free Internet access worked fine. We did not check out the outdoor pool as it was Winter.
Location:
The hotel is directly located behind the Hollywood and Highland Mall, a shopping center full of stores and restaurants (Great: California Pizza Kitchen!!!). You walk about 100 meter from the hotel and voila you are standing in the mall. Just ask the hotel staff for advise, they can help you with everything.
Universal/Warner Bros Studios are close by, you can either reach them by public transportation or even better by car.
The Hollywood Boulevard itself was rather disappointing, it is a very touristy place, but I guess thats what it is supposed to be ;=) Do check out the cinema though, the sound system is amazing. There are two nightclubs open on weekend within the Mall, but the value is rather bad. For the younger crowd it might be nice, they have days with 18yr admission.
If you are roadtripping, I would suggest to stay just 2 days here, first for the Hollywood area, second for a Studio Tour. Any additional days I would spend closer to the beach.
