I stayed here for one week during a business trip. The hotel is fairly centrally located, close to Melrose, Sunset. The rooms are not extraordinary. The hotel restaurant - Gigi's was not very good and especially with all the great restaurants in the neighborhood, I would not recommend eating there. The staff was courteous, friendly, and great gym.

This hotel carries a four or five star rating and is part of the Sofitel chain, which while not top class, should at least provide some assurance of quality.

The hotel rooms are dirty. I stayed in one and my colleague in another, in December 2004, and both rooms had bathrooms which made you afraid to enter. Grime covered the grouting and limescale remained in the bath and sink. The showerhead was broken.

Dirty rooms, that is a complete no-no for a four star hotel. I don't mean dusty, I mean engrained dirt, months if not years old.

The staff smile and are friendly, which is their way of telling you no. A request for shampoo was never fulfilled. Can I have a glass of ice brought to my room? Not really, it is too late (11.30 pm). Can I change rooms, since this one smells of cigarrettes? No. And so on. But very friendly refusals.

The internet access didn't work half the time (I do mean half). So for business people, this hotel is out of the question. The hotel had a lot of excuses, but I didn't pay for excuses, I paid for internet access.

World brands like Sofitel are supposed to assure a certain level of, if nothing else, cleanliness, but this Sofitel should not even be 3 stars.

We spent 4 nights in the Sofitel and loved every minute. It is a beautiful hotel, the staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful. Our room was absolutely gorgeous with a view of the Hollywood sign and the worlds most comfortable bed!! It is in a fantastic location, directly opposite the Hard Rock Cafe and Beverly Center, a quick taxi ride to Sunset strip clubs and close walking distance to Melrose Ave. If you want to shop, go dancing and dine out at great resturants, this is a good choice.

We stayed at the Sofitel, West Hollywood in October 2004 for a week. After spending the previous week at a very pleasant but quite modest hotel in Anaheim, we were glad to be welcomed by the 5 star quality of the Sofitel. We were welcomed upon check-in, and at the request of our 5 year old son, our room was changed to the other side of the building to include a view of the "Hollywood" sign - its amazing what a child with impeccable manners will do for you in the USA! A very accomodating receptionist then had a fold out bed delivered for my son as the rooms on this side are not twins. Even with the fold out, and the king size bed we had plenty of room to move with 3 in the room. We have stayed in many hotels worldwide and The Sofitel has THE most comfortable beds and pillows we have ever encountered. Hotel facilities are very good, with a well equipped gym, a small but adequate pool, a nice bar and a good restaurant as well as very good toiletries in the bathroom which were replenished daily. Room service was prompt, efficient and friendly and tailored meals to our 5 year olds needs. The hotel is right opposite the Beverley Centre, which has excellent shopping, a block from the Hard Rock Cafe and Starbucks and a 15-20min walk or short taxi or bus ride from The Grove and Farmers Market for more excellent shopping - a great location considering not much in L.A. is within walking distance. The concierge was very good in recommending places to go/see and organised transport and tours quickly and efficiently. The Sofitel is really very good value, well positioned and by no means the most expensive hotel around the Beverley Hills/West Hollywood areas. We will definitely stay here again.
