I staying here as we speak :) for work and a holiday for an entire three weeks. As I had pre-booked on expedia and paid the full non-refundable amount, I can't really move but I long to. So I don't have the benefit of hindsight, and I am currently in a stunned state about how bad this place is...(for the money of course, if it was two/three star rated and $80-$100 a night fine...for my room access it is $195+all the taxes).

The majority of the staff are very nice people, but there is a general no-can-do attitude. My first room had no broadband access but a beautiful view. My second room had broadband, but a whole load of other probs. Here are the negative things which have happened - so far!. (I am not a picky traveller, and if this was an under-developed country fair enough, but it's a hotel in LA!)

1. I changed rooms twice and all three bath tubs had a layer of impregnated grime which couldn't be removed, and i had to buy myself some flipflops to stand in it. The tiles are chipped and dirty and the taps were rusty.
2. The carpet is filthy and there are several large holes and cigarette burns in it (I am in a non-smoking room). I generally don't like touching things, and the maids have no idea about cleanliness.
3. The hot chocolate comes in big pots for $10 (when you add charges), that made about 6 cups. When I said I wanted just a cup of hot chocloate one night (to be less wasteful but still paying the £10 bucks) this could not be done!
4. The room has high speed interent for which one has to pay a premium on the room plus extra for the access itself. This would have been fine, but 6 days out of my 2 weeks so far the internet has had problems and was down for hours at a time. As I am working this is a great inconvenience. This was "Not our fault we have an unrealiable ISP" - well get a new one!
5. The food is merely edible. If you have low expectiations you would htink it is fine but nothing to write home about.
6. The plugs in my room ,look like fire hazards. They spark, wobble and looked like they were on their last legs.
7. The service is very efficient and quick, however as I said, ask for anything beyond what is in their rules and you will be struggling. Also the general atmosphere isn't particularly friendly...the staff although nice people don't look like they want to be here, and I don't blame them.
8. I ordered cheescake a bit early and they said it was still frozen.

I could go on but I already have, and you get the idea...a bit Fawlty Towers for all those who know the British comedy and for those who don't please don't come here expecting a four star hotel...or better still stay away!

Stayed at the Sofitel for the second time, large room (also had a balcony), well furnished, marble in the bath, nice sized desk, etc. etc. This is a good central location as well.

I got the room this time via Priceline, for $125, and at that price it is also a very good value.

the first thing you notice at the sofitel is the efficiency of the staff, they were really quick!!! the entrance was very grand and so was our room. the whole room was very nice, nicely decorated, clean, the amenities were posh and the free evian water with the turn down service was nice. the bed was amazingly comfortable, it was lovely. this hotel was also very convenient to the beverly centre which was just across the road. altogether this hotel was great to stay in and we hope to return soon.

Stayed at the Sofitel Los Angeles in February this year. A very enjoyable stay (made more so by the fact that I joined the Accor / Sofitel Privileged Guest Programme shortly before depature). The hotel is very handily located to the Beverly Center and the California Welcome Center as well as other amenities (Ralphs supermarket, American Express Bureau de Change etc). We had a very good room on the 9th floor, the bottled water (Evian) was very welcome and turn down service were very nice and everything worked very well. The furnishings were very good and the room was spacious and clean. I note that one review remarked that there were no tea / coffee facilities, we noted that most mornings, there was free coffee in the main lobby. Staff were friendly and helpful, room service and concierge were efficient. I would stay there again !

First off, the service was great. Nice friendly staff. Everyone was courteous and helpful. Gym was good. Feather bed was great. Evening turn down service was nice. Toiletries in room were excellent with bathrobes.

Now the bad: The carpet in the room was dingy. They tiles in bathroom were dingy also. Very dirty rooms. Very dirty hallways and facility.
