“To Boutique or not Boutique”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

The O Hotel is conveniently located in downtown LA for those who are looking for a short stay. It is fine for the traveler who will be concentrating on an event downtown. We were there for the Pink concert at the Staples Center and the hotel is a very short walk to the Staples Center.

Things I liked about this hotel. It is small, very personal and the staff is exceptional. It was also very quiet. The rooms are very contemporary in design and have your major necessities handled.

Things I didn't like about this hotel. No hotel parking, no valet and NO help with baggage. There is a public parking lot next door but be prepared to lug your stuff. I DID NOT appreciate their "smoking" section in front of the hotel. Every time we entered or exited the hotel someone was there smoking, huge turn off. The rooms are small, but we weren't planning on staying in the room for any length of time and worked for us. Definitely would not work if you were staying there more than a couple of days.

Things I despised about this hotel, they force a $14 surcharge on you. Whether you want it or not, you are going to pay $14 which covers the 2 bottles of cheap water in your room and your continental breakfast the following morning (we did not eat the breakfast it was severely lacking). I was not happy with this surcharge. The other thing that really annoyed me is that no pets are allowed. In this day and age when dogs have become part of our traveling routine, there is no excuse for this. Lastly, if you do not get a break in room charge from a discount site, its EXPENSIVE to stay here.

I heard some good things about the O, but it didn't really live up to my expectations of this "really cool boutique hotel". It was average and overpriced. I did like the dim lighting throughout and the staff was very friendly. We only had a standard room and with tax and the ever-present and annoying resort fee it was $300 for the night, and I have certainly stayed in way nicer places for that type of price. It is in a good location to Staples, which is why we stayed there and it is less expensive than some surrounding properties, like the JW Marriott and Ritz, but still, I can't say it is worth the money. The on-site restaurant is good but not stellar like some reviewers have said. Bottom line, good if you can't find a better deal nearby. Also, the hotel is way overheated and didn't just feel hot but humid, yuck.

I was traveling to LA for Christmas and stayed here. The service was spectacular from the concierge . Special thanks to kriss he is perfect.
Room was comfortable, The breakfast was nice.
All in all, the hotel is a great choice if you are looking to stay downtown and the LA Live area has plenty to do in your down time.

The O is a good option, however standard rooms are quite small, bathrooms minuscule, and there are some details that revail a bit of need for maintenance. The restaurant, however, is really cool, amd the bar has a great atmosphere and even better cocktails.

My partner and i stayed here in December and this is by far the best value for hotel in downtown LA. The last time we stayed at the Sheraton downtown, room were crap and service was bad. We stayed for 2 days in the deluxe queen room and loved it! The decor in the hotel is classy and tasteful. The rooms were spacious, modern and comfy. The hot shower in the bathroom though a tad bit complicated was something to look forward to after a long tiring day of shopping! The location of the hotel is also perfect cause if you decide to rent a car, there is a parking right next to the hotel and a I-hop right across the hotel. Breakfast is served with fresh pastries and coffee. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and welcomes you with a smile anytime of the day. All in all, we had a good stay and would definitely return to stay here some day.

The staff was great! Everyone was kind and helpful. The room was a bit pricey, but it was New Year's eve. ONE COMPLAINT: the shower head/nozzle is not easy to use and extremely difficult to maneuver! Otherwise, we had a great stay and would return.

For a hotel on a main street the rooms are quiet. Both my friend and I were allocated rooms which looked out to a brick wall which was depressing however better this than a noisy front room I guess. Decent selection of pastries and even fresh fruit (!!!) at breakfast. Reception staff are great, couldn't be more helpful. Great location if visiting Staples Centre (we booked to see a basket match which was great)

Hello,

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts in regards to your stay with us. We try to be as upfront as possible in regards to the view from our queen rooms - advertising them as "no view", and using photos that show the buildings outside. I apologize if you were expecting something different upon arrival. These rooms are geared toward the budget traveler, and the design focus is placed on the amenities inside the room, such as the flat screen TVs, top of the line bedding and mattresses, and luxurious bathroom amenities.

We do offer upgraded rooms on the front of the building, facing Flower Street. These rooms have King sized beds and large bright windows.
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast offering, the staff, and the location. I look forward to welcoming you back to The O Hotel soon.

Warm regards,

Erin Holness
