“Ahhhhhhhhh, Pasta.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Cantalini's is a fabulous find. The interior is cozy and classy. The entire staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is outstanding. Every dish is fresh -- really fresh -- and the menu has dishes that will meet anyone's diet. Vegans might be a little limited.
Valet parking is complementary.
I love Sunday evenings with Ian Whitcomb and his boys. Their music is very entertaining -- never intrusive.
I'd recommend making a reservation to insure your table. This is a very good place to have a party, meet friends, bring your sweetheart, bring the family or come solo. Cantalini's is comfy.
Also, they have a very nice wine selection. Save room; their desserts are not to be missed.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Had tried this restaurant when I was in the area December 2010. When we went back earlier this month, we made sure we went back to this wonderful restaurant. It is unique! Almost like a diner with great Italian food. We got there late on a Sunday night and even thought they were near closing, they treated us like we were the first customers of the evening. The food was incredibly good and not horribly expensive. The atmosphere is very charming! The personel great. Their pasta is made there and very very good. A "must" return the next time in LA!

“Best restaurant in Playa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

I love this little italian joint. Very cute and clean, friendly staff and the food is always great. The only place to go in Playa for a nice dinner. Large portions and the best pizza. Pasta is authentic al dente pasta, great selection of italian wines. Cant say enough. Highly recommended!

“Delightful place for basic Italian food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

We went with good friends who live nearby who read the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. It is a medium sized place that was very crowded on a Saturday night. Fortunately we had a reservation. Equally fortunate is valet parking being available. We were seated immediately. The menu is mostly "tried and true" Italian dishes. The specials involved tiger prawns and were probably good but we will never know. The caprese salad was tasty but without a lot of tomato slices though all ingredients excellent. The Gorgonzola salad was made with dry, tough leaves and not very good. The Caesar salad was so lightly dressed that our friends thought it wasn't. Sausage and peppers as a main course was very good. Linguine as a base for other dishes was flavorful but those who had it thought there was too much garlic. My wife pulled out at least 20 cloves and has no idea how many she ate in her portion of plain linguine and olive oil/garlic. Our friends had similar numbers in linguine with clams. Didnt try appetizers. We were too full for dessert. It looked good. Wine list looked good. I think food prices were reasonable. Wine seemed a little high but I don't eat in LA too often so may not know fair pricing. Service was adequate. Waiter too busy to pay close attention to us. Interesting neighborhood. Unlikely to be back but I think it was good just not as good as other amateur reviewers consider it.
