I was looking forward to lunch at Off Vine. It used to be a favorite haunt , prior to attending shows at the Pantages Theatre. This charming bungalow, built in 1908, is just off Sunset and Vine, and has a lovely patio, as well as cozy dining rooms. The wait staff are amicable and efficient, but alas, the food is just not what it used to be. Today's special soup, split pea, had almost no flavor, nor did the house made potato chips...both accompaniments to my [also] flavorless smoked turkey and baked brie sandwich. My husband didn't fare much better, with an unusual chicken piccata entree, heavy on a unlikely orange flavored sauce. We were celebrating our son's birthday, and unfortunately, his Cobb salad was also lacking is taste and salad ingredients. But...a good calamari appetizer! I hope others fare better than we did today.
