“Now We known What is behind the Door”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

So, what is behind the door? Another door? A vampire lurking? Or, simply one of the best restaurants we have tried in LA... I vote for the last note. The Little Next Door is, well, in the terms of years ago...a darn cool place. This is a place where the ambiance tackles the food construction for what is the best in line. Kudos to the servers and bar staff and the rest of those who make this restaurant special and significant. We can not imagine a 'bad' meal being served here---just as we can not image an more imaginative use of roof tin, trees, vines, covered patios, heaters, tables and chairs....somehow it all blends into a mosaic of perfection. For LA restaurants, what works is what works--and for the little door--next door or not--what works is just wonderful.

“Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

Spacious restaurant with great ambiance and fitted out to give a genuine European feel. Very well trained servers, and friendly, attentive service. Saturday brunch menu had a many choices, and every dish had a unique appeal - so it seems as if a lot of thought has gone into the menu offerings.
I had smoked salmon eggs benedict -- which was truly delicious. The latte I ordered was served in a bowl - and that's something I have only previously experienced in rural France. Fantastique! The pastries are amazing. Pricing was moderate -- and well worth it. Everyone had a great meal, and were made to feel very welcome. Kudos, guys - you're doing great!

“Good food, excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

Visiting from Chicago, we thought we would have dinner at the Mexican place next door. We learned it was actually a bar, and our kids could not enter. We needed to get something into cranky daughter's belly, stat. Luckily there was a table ready on the patio at the Little Next Door, and we immediately sat down and ordered some calamari, cheeae, and wine. The menu is varied, there was something for everyone including a vegan option. Our waiter was fantastic and took our daughter to the bakery case to select a cookie, how sweet is that? Husband had the lamb shank, and loved it. Other dishes eaten were boeuf bourguignon, hanger steak, and mussels, all tasty. Pot de creme and soufflé was delicious. Only complaint is lack of hard liquor, but I have a feeling it's not the fault of the restaurant, probably a licensing thing. The bakery case is a thing of beauty. Reasonable prices too. Very glad we ended up here, and would go back.

“Great food, atmosphere & value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

Just had dinner on the recommendation of our hotel's front desk.
We loved the style of Little Next Door from the moment we walked in. Walls lines with wine bottles, charming tables & glass cabinets full of French pastries. The front patio area was well heated & we enjoyed sitting outdoors.
Serving sizes were on the modest size, but that was perfect for us. We'd already had 2 weeks of oversized American food on the East coast & some lightness of touch was welcomed. Prices are so reasonable, we didn't feel ripped off by the portion size.
Everything we ate was prefectly seasoned & so tasty. And when food tastes that good, you're satisfied, right?
Hubby had a salad nicoise with grilled fresh albacore tuna. Strapping son had Merguez sausage wrap & was very happy. Little daughter is fighting a bug, so the restaurant happily served her a side portion of plain grilled salmon, which by the way, was delicious. I had a beetroot & goats cheese salad with salmon added. Also perfectly spiced, dressed & presented.
There is a large & well sourced wine list, with many by the glass. My French Pinot noir was unusually fruity & almost sweet, not really to my taste, but that's not their fault.
To finish we had their home made chocolate eclairs. They were quite outstanding, with a thin layer of choux pastry, & a large amount of chocolate ganache inside. Hubby, an eclair aficiando, thought it outstanding. (They bake all their own breads & pastries.)
Service was friendly, helpful & caring.
We'll be back again in the next few days while we're in town.

“Romantic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

Great spot for a date. Real Feench vibe and the Little Next Door is also good for a quick bite or breakfast. Lots of wines by the glass so no fighting over what bottle to order. A gem in LA for many years.
