“Good Shepherd's Pie”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

Food was pretty good here. I had the shepherd's Pie & it was delicious. My companions also enjoyed their meals but not as much as I did. Service left a lot to be desired.

“Right out of Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

We were headed down Grand Av when a parking spot right in front of the bar opened up so we pulled in. Street parking is metered and is $5 for two hours. Not sure how much the parking is in the lots nearby but finding a parking spot can be difficult. The bar is also three blocks from the metro station. The bar is below ground so you need to take steps down to an open court area with tables. We were greeted at the door by two hostesses who offered us a booth or a place at the bar. The bar is made of dark wood walls with a lighter wood floor. The ceiling is made from stamped tin. The bathrooms were outdated and lined with some really nice stones.

We ate at the bar. We had one order of bangers and mash and one order of fish and chips. The bangers were lightly grilled and very tender. The insides were a nice white color and very tasteful. The mashed potatoes lacked any real body and could have been a bit firmer. The peas were cooked to perfection and had a slight pop to them. The fish and chips came served on cut sheets of the L A Times. The best use of the L A Times I have seen in years. The fish was good. It was not too oily and not overly battered. The potato wedges were outstanding. They were flavorful and a joy to eat.
I really wish I lived closer to this bar!

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

Orderd the corn beef sandwich. Absolutely inedible. Boiled shoe leather would have been better. So-called Irish fries were also awful.

Go to drink beer and watch games... eat before you go.

“Underground Irish bistro with good atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

I went during an "off" period, not too crowded. Had a small table where I could read my newspaper and look at a tv screen from time to time if I wanted. It was football. Big screen. Not loud. There are only two entrées—corned beef/cabbage and Irish stew. The stew was good, but a bit overflavored with celery. Lots of it. Tried a Jameson pickleback. You can sip or chug. I sipped. Good experience, but next time I will have just the Jameson, a very good whisky. Ambiance was really nice.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011

Very typical pub... nothing more or less. Food is alright -- the corned beef and cabbage was decent but nothing special. It is cool how they are located at a subterranean level, kind of makes it an oasis within downtown, and the convenience of the location is nice too.
