“Excellent Food at Baco Mercat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

My friends and I dined at Baco Mercat and were wonderfully surprised with the quality of food. We split the dishes so we were able to try many of the dishes such the "Original" Baco sandwich which was very filling with pork and very tender pieces of beef. We also had the spaghetti squash with creamed corn which was delicious, the Con flat bread ( similar to a flat pizza) which was also very tasty as well as the iceberg lettuce salad, eggplant salad and sauteed peaches. The chef was formerly working at "The Lazy Ox" and has opened his own restaurant and proven that he's a very talented chef!

“Lives up to the hype !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

Having heard nothing but raves about this place, I was apprehensive it had been overhyped. Not so! Every bite was delicious and just slightly unexpected. We had the Brussels Sprouts Ceasar and the Carpaccio along with a flat bread with cheese and tomatoes. Plenty for us, but other tables were ordering more dishes. The rose sangria was outstanding. I can't wait to go back. Be sure and make a reservation.

“An adventure full of surprises!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Four of us had a delightful experience at Baco Mercat. Just reading the menu, which gave us a tiny clue as to what we were about to discover. The helpful staff attempted to fill in the details, but it wasn't until the food came that we enjoyed the sight, smell and the look. When we dug in, we realized that we had scored a wonderful eating experience. Everything was excellent and enough to share. Two dishes apiece were quite filling, especially with a large jug of beer. The only down side was the music, needed some good jazz or something that one could talk over without yelling.

“A foodie find! on Main St near Skid row”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

Wow, after yoga at Yoga Circle at 400 S Main St in downtown LA, I stumbled upon a wonderful casual bar/restaurant in the same building. (Note--the Yoga Circle founded by Knekoh is the real deal. Shad and Carrie wonderful teachers! Enjoy Ayurveda and Bhakti style yoga.)
Baco Mercat is getting great buzz. We ate there Sunday brunch at the bar with Jasmine, an awesome bartender. They make amazing drinks with FRESH fruits. Their small plates are truly an amalgamation of tastes. Soft scrambled eggs with chervil, tarragon, and parsley; baked peaches in honey glaze w/ hazelnuts and warm creamy chèvre; the sugar snap pee salad with grapefruit, pear, endive. Yum. All at the bar love this place and were locals.
One of the sweetest pieces of Baco is how Jasmine spoke of the head chef and founder Joseph Centeno. She said he is the blood, sweet and tears of the whole operation and is "on it!"

Always in the top ten of DTLA picks - my last meal was the best ever. Shrimp was amazing - brussel sprout salad is amazing.
