We stayed at the Renaissance Hollywood on 9/5/05 as an overnight stop between San Diego and Las Vegas. Our goal was to get a quick taste of Hollywood and this location perfectly suited our needs!
As many have noted, the hotel is located within extremely close proximity to all Hollywood Boulevard attractions. Located in the Hollywood & Highland complex, it was well kept and felt extremely safe, with the open air mall, funky bowling facility, and plenty of restaurants to occupy your time in the evening when the world outside the complex gets a bit sketchy.
Valet service was lightening fast and pretty reasonable at $22, which was surprisingly cheap considering what we've paid in other metropolitan tourist areas. Front desk check in was quick and pleasant.
The room itself was a typical king hotel room setup with bath, bed, tv/armoire, and desk. We had a view of the city which was very nice both at night and during the day. The decor is sort of retro, reminiscent of 50s contemporary styling. The bathroom was roomy with plenty of towels and bath products available. Everything was very clean and in good shape with the exception of the bedspread and pillow shams, which seemed a bit worn (not a big deal as we just throw it all off the bed when we sleep anyway). All the public areas are clean and have wonderful artwork on display.
We had the breakfast buffet at Twist, the onsite restaurant and found it to have a good selection of quality hot & cold items, including cooked to order eggs and waffles. The service was top notch and we thought it was a pretty good value for $16 or so, even though we didn't eat a lot.
All in all, this was a great hotel providing us the perfect home base for our one day visit to Hollywood. It is a great option for anyone looking to stay in or tour the Hollywood Boulevard attractions, as well as other attractions reachable by Metro as the station is extremely close by.
