“Brand new, fashionably boutique, upstart issues ....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2011

We had other reservations at the new Marriott but switched to spend 4 nights at the new Hotel Wilshire because of the enthusiastic new reviews on TripAdvisor. We are not "boutique" hotel fans and have great preference for the new updated classic hotels but we wanted to be adventurous.... My husband and I just spent 8 nights in a big 1100 square foot suite with 2 bathrooms and a den at the Trump International Waikiki so we knew this Hotel Wilshire was not going to be close in amenities - but still it was quite a let down. First, all the employees look very unhappy. One housekeeper did smile when I greeted her on two occasions but then we leave a tip (to scale as recommended by the press) every single morning including on check out morning. The front desk is not friendly even when I am. We had a junior suite. It is decorated nicely (modern) but we found the infrastructure design really flawed. The ultra sleek bathroom has a rain shower (nice) with no shower curtain so the water splashes everywhere especially on their nice new bamboo wood floor. There's a soaking tub but the shower head that is installed does not remain directed at your body so it's not an option for a shower. The beautiful Roman shade in the bathroom has to stay all the way down because the large window is in full view of the office building and garage across the street. The living room area has an interesting look but the new upscale lighting is very dark even with all the lights on everywhere. The intro rates are reasonable but I would not stay here again because we did not feel at all welcome. When we checked out of the Trump Hotel everyone including the valet thanked us for staying with them. The Wilshire is a grumpy place. One big positive was the valet parking onsite - those guys were pleasant all the time.

Room Tip: We had a Junior suite which was average but seemed small for 500 square feet. The singles are half t...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your visit to the new Hotel Wilshire Los Angeles! We are very glad that you stayed with us, and we again thank you for your constructive feedback. We value comments like yours because they help us run our hotel better. While we are glad that you had the luxe experience of being able to stay at a 5-star condominium resort in Hawaii, we feel it important to mention that The Hotel Wilshire is marketed in the 4 Star category of hotels and apologize if in some way we have miss-represented this, hence, we do not proclaim to be in the same tier as the Trump International Waikiki. Our 74-room independent boutique property has a strict emphasis on a comfortable, stylish and environmentally-friendly Los Angeles experience; we are as you have said, a brand new property, having come up on our 2nd month of operation. We thank you for your comments about staff; and agree a smile does go a long way, and we want all of our guests to feel welcome. We also apologize also for customer service you experienced and this has been addressed with the appropriate department managers and their staff. Every guest is our best customer at The Hotel Wilshire, and we thank you for your visit and your comments.

Kind Regards,
The Hotel Wilshire

Absolutely the most enjoyable vacation I have have ever been on and I would owe a huge amount of that to the Hotel Wilshire and its team. The place was clean, super enjoyable, relaxing, and beautiful, very nice designed. The staff was very friendly and had excellent service. I only got back a week ago and I want to go back there so badly! From check in to check out service was extraordinary!

Room Tip: I would reccommend 2nd floor, the rooms have patios!

My colleague and I stayed at The Hotel Wilshire for 5 days on business, ending with a hosted reception on the roof top patio.
We had sent ahead packages and the front desk was very accomodating in letting us access them whenever we needed to.
The decor of the rooms is super chic yet comforting and by far THE nicest hotel bed I have ever slept in.
I had a Junior King Suite which had a nice bath/shower combo and a separate living area which was very nice.
The restaurant, hotel, and valet staff were all very accomodating in helping us put on our event for 75+ people.
For the beds and the roof top view alone - 5/5.

We were excited about a new hotel in LA since we frequent the area; however, this hotel was a HUGE disappointment. It is lacking standard quality control and the service is not indicative of a 4* hotel.

I know this review contradicts those already posted so we took photos to support it. I excluded the dirty tub photo and the one evidencing the blood on the wall in the bathroom as I felt it was too repulsive to post (that is a first!).

Upon check-in, the hotel appears nice. Simpson was quick to accommodate a room change when the first hotel room offered a dirty bathtub, a desk lined with dust, strings of long, dark hair left on the leather chair from the last guest and a closet that had not been vacuumed.

Guests venture before you at hotels - but a GOOD hotel does not make you feel like someone just left...

** We were "downgraded" from the king bed that we paid for - which my 6'2" husband was not impressed by **

When we brought these issues to the attention of the hotel Manager, he assured us he would take care of things when we left off-site for our dinner reservations. We returned late to find the blood washed from the wall, however, the remaining photos were taken after we had time to fully settle in and we NEVER saw the Manager again - NOT reflective of exemplary 4* service.

I can recommend the rooftop patio/bar only if you are in your early 20's; you can expect the same lack of service/cleanliness there, too.

For a new hotel, a better first impression is crucial. We will not recommend nor be back.

** Book another hotel if ROOM COMFORT, CLEANLINESS and CUSTOMER SERVICE are important to you **

Room Tip: ** Book a different hotel if SERVICE, ROOM COMFORT AND CLEANLINESS are important to you **

I stayed at The Hotel Wilshire for 3 nights in a beautiful suite. From the friendly staff at check-in to the great decor my stay was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and the the bedding and pillows were great. The roof top view was amazing and the food was too! I will definitely be back!

My wife & I booked a room last minute and got a steal of a deal for the area: everything else was either a motel, or double the nightly rate. The amenities are plush, the rooms cozy and modern, and the staff extremely helpful. We liked the swanky bathroom shower, and the King bed was very power nap-worthy. The rooftop lounge/pool/bar looks like a great summer hangout. Additionally, I left some personal belongings there and they FedEx-ed it to my home address. One caveat: the hotel is brand new, so there is some construction noise, and our fridge didn't work. Other than that, I can't wait to visit again!

The roof deck was the best - good views, good cocktails, good food, good music - with sofa cabanas, lounge chairs, cocktail and dinner tables, heat lamps and gas fire at night. Rooms were well designed, clean, modern. Staff very friendly. Location is convenient to major sights and locations, shopping, restaurants, etc. in a business/downtown area (rent a car for ease). I would stay again.
