Hi There: I stayed at this hotel on a split trip for business and pleasure over the summer and was rudely suprised by the physical location of the place based on what I saw on Expedia. Although the hotel is smack dab in the heart of LA just down the street from the Beverly Center. It is FAR from Modern and for what I paid a night almost $200 a night it still gives me a burn in my belly just thinking about it. Not to mention, there is absolutely no parking around the hotel so they force you to valet. The hotel looks like its straight out of a 1960's movie in desperate need of renovation. The room was a matchbox and very nasty. We sleep in all of our clothes the first night because we could not adjust the AC and the street stunk. The bathtub was dirty and the sink was stopped up. When we requested another room the staff told us that they were completely soldout all week. Expedia wouldnt give us our money back and told us that we were on our own if we wanted to go elsewhere. The only thing that saves this hotel from me giving it complete "TERRIBLE" rating is that the manager and staff were extremely apologetic and accomodating understanding our concerns. We ended up getting back like $200 off the stay and some credits from Expedia after about an 1hr 30 min wait on hold. Nonetheless, Joel Majors and the entire staff at Elan Hotel Modern were very nice. I hope that the owners read this review and invest into upgrading the hotel.

We had read the great reviews and not knowing where to stay in LA, we thought we'd book the Elan. We are so glad we did. I loved the hotel. The staff were fantastic, it was convenient to the Beverly Centre and not too long a walk to the Farmers Market. We were also able to get the 25 cent bus at the end of the road to Hollywood Blvd. We were impressed with our lovely room, the bathrobe, toiletries and the breakfast was an added bonus. There was everything you could need for breakfast (as my husband and I don't do greasy food) and you could have as much as you wanted. Although we were never there for the wine reception, it was great to know that it was available. The staff really couldn't have been more helpful as we needed 25 cent for the bus one day and they were going to give it to us. There was a little conufsion on our return home as our credit card had been billed a nominal amount but I contacted the hotel and it was refunded immediately. I really couldn't recommend this hotel enough. I have to say, the views didn't bother me at all - I'd much rather have a great standard of hotel. After all, how much of your time do you actually spend in the hotel?

We recently spent a week in Los Angeles at the Elan. It is very conveniently located about a block from the Beverly Center. It is proximate to all the tourist sites we were interested in visiting. Customer service was top notch - very friendly and accommodating. There is a decent breakfast every morning. (Great - strong - coffee and croissants) included in the cost of the stay. Parking is valet and costs 19 dollars per day though the site said 16 dollars per day. There is metered parking adjacent to the hotel. We decided to forego the valet parking and just fed the meters during the times they were monitored (8 am to 6 pm, M-F). The rooms were clean. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were great. Rooms are a little on the small side. The building is a bit old and it shows. She's like an old gal with fresh make up. Overall, this is a solid hotel and we had a comfortable week stay with a reasonable rate.

We booked this hotel after reading reviews on tripadvisor and we were not dissapointed. The room was big and had a great tv and there were sweets on a table and chocolate on the bed every day. The only bad thing was that there were no chairs on the balcony but who cares. Good location, great staff, good valetparking and good breakfast. I would definetly live there again and i would recomend everyone to do so to.
