This review is for the 1 hour Hollywood Sign Tour. It basically sucked, so I'm sure the other tours that they have will suck too. Their convertible tour bus seated about 14 people and the buses were dirty and old. They didn't even bother to remove the old cups that the previous tourists left behind. I also happened to get seated by this loud and boisterous 40 year old wannabe teenager Mexican lady acting like this was the greatest thing ever. The guide and driver shared very little information about the Hollywood sign. Maybe the noisy lady was distracting him or maybe he just had nothing to share. He was trying his best to be polite and we tipped him $5 for his efforts. The only good thing that came out of this tour was that I now know how to get to the sign on my own, and I can tell you how so you don't have to put up with this kinda crap and waste 19 bucks a person (if you weren't already suckered by those hawkers off of Hollywood Blvd or didn't get some sort of Groupon/LivingSocial deal)
Head north on Cahuenga Blvd, turn right on Wonderview Rd. The road is very winding and convoluted but stay on Wonderview Rd. no matter what. Then make a Right on Lake Hollywood Drive and STAY on it. You are going to pass by a lake which is the "Upper Hollywood Reservoir" Hollywood Drive would then turn into Tahoe Drive and turn RIGHT on Canyon Lake Dr and arrive at Lake Hollywood Park and viola! the beautiful iconic sign of Los Angeles. It still looks far away from here. I am certain that there's got to be a closer way to get up there by car, but this is where this tour bus stops for pictures. You will find that there are quite a number of people who have found this spot on their own with their digital SLRs and the residents just hanging out with their family on the park. It helps if you have a smartphone with GPS to guide you to Lake Hollywood Park. The guide only allowed about 15-20 minutes of photo op and returned you back to where they picked you up. Thank goodness it was only an hour tour, good enough to let me know that this tour was a rip off.
