“Expensive Food, Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Went here as a party of 6 for no special occasion on a weeknight, and there were very few people at the restaurant.

Decor was nice, and it is apparently much busier on other nights of the week - maybe the weekends?

Drinks were decent. A number of various margaritas. They were tasty, but also expensive. They range from $15- $100 (yes, $100). The Market Margarita was tasty, but $18 was pushing it - though not atypical for Hollywood.

Food was above average, but nothing was extraordinary. Nothing we ordered was bad either. Some items were better than others. The Queso Fundido and Ceviche Platter we notably nice. The price is quite expensive for what you got. You may leave hungry unless you stock up on appetizers (need those small Hollywood portions for the socialites).

The service was great. from our arrival and the helpfulness of getting us to the front door, to the attentive servers and bussers making sure the table was clean and drinks full. Manager was on top of things, and checking up. Not sure if it was normal practice, or because there was nothing to do - but a nice gesture nonetheless.

Would not be on the top of my list to return, but perhaps worth a splurge if looking for a trendy place to take people without having to be disappointed by the food or service.

“Shout out to Rick”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

If you have ever been to a Rick Bayless restaurant then you know how incredible the food is. Red O does not disappoint. From the atmosphere, the staff, the margaritas to the food. There were group seven adults plus two little ones. They were very accommodating for the little ones. Not a place I would normally want to bring children, but as it was my son's birthday his nieces needed to be there. The pastry chef even created a diary free dessert for my son's birthday cake.
Just a wonderful meal and place to be.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

Not many restaurants do everything right, but the Red O does! From the minute I walked in the door I was impressed, the hostess was very cheerful and accommodating. There was many types of tables to choose from, bar tables, booths, lounge areas, what ever type of seating you prefer. The table was set immediately, water was brought to are table without having to ask. After ordering drinks they too where immediately brought to us. When ordering the food the staff was very well informed of the dishes, she told us that the staff dined there often so they would know what everything taste like. When the food was brought to the table it was right from the kitchen hot with NO wait time, Nice! The food was amazing, I can't explain it, it just melted in my mouth with an array of spices and taste! The chef even came out and introduced himself and asked how everything was. After dinner I went to the restroom to wash up, even more impressive, extremely clean, great soap and the best paper towels to dry with. If you ever get a chance to go to the Red O, please do you will not be disappointed, and your review will look like mine.

“What a pleasant surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014 via mobile

Went to Red O tonight at the recommendation of the Concierge at our hotel (the Palomar in Westwood), not realizing it was a Rick Baylis restaurant. Great food and nice ambience (although our table for two was very close to the next couple). The lamb mole and the grilled Blue Shrimp were delicious as were the Churos for desert. Our only complaint was that the service was rather "slam, bam, thank you"-took the order, served the food. Since others raved about the service perhaps it was just our server. A definite foodie destination, pricey, but worth it!

“Great upscale Mexican”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

I have been to Rick Bayless' other Mexican restaurants in Chicago, and was not a fan so I was very pleasantly surprised by the location in Beverly Hills. The decor is wonderful as is the atmosphere. Start off with one of their great hand crafted cocktails like the Paloma or one of the traditional margaritas. All the items are unique and wonderfully prepared but don't worry the traditional Mexican staples are in there as well. The food was delicious things to order are the corn & goat cheese tamales and the chorizo con Queso for appetizers.Whether you want octopus, oysters or traditional Mole for dinner you won't be disappointed. Don't leave without a Churro for dessert and an after dinner cocktail.
