“Don't Do It”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2010

As already stated, this is not a haunted tour at all. It is a tour of celebrity homes and the restaurants where they can be seen.

The tour driver had no idea about any of the sites we visited. The worst was the area where the Tate murders occurred. Not only did he get the details of what happened completely wrong, but we only turned onto Cielo Drive and didn't go anywhere where the house once stood. This could have been a good thing, because his erratic driving had already nearly caused a wreck and a drive up that canyon probably would have resulted in a brand new stop on the tour.

Places the website mentions where you are supposed to visit include Marilyn Monroe's haunted mirror, OJ crime scene, Witch House, a cemetery, the Roosevelt Hotel ... some of which include actually getting out of the van and going inside. We didn't see a single one of these nor were we ever allowed to get out of the van and see anything of interest.

You do get to see wonderful things like Mariah Carey's house (which might not actually be her house), Tom Cruise's house, a house built by Salvador Dali (actually built by an American architect in the late '80s inspired by Gaudi and not Dali - though I have friends who went on a similar tour and were told it was built by Gaudi; 60 years after his death). We also stopped by Bela Lugosi's home and were told he died "only a couple of years ago."

There is so much more that I could go on about, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone who might decide go on this tour. If you don't mind spending nearly $40 to laugh at the absurdity of it all, go for it. Be forewarned, on top of the ridiculously high price of the tour, you will be guilt tripped into giving a tip.

I'll try to keep this short:
-Most of the sites the list on their website were not visited.
-The website claims there's validated parking, but they failed to mention that THEY do not validate it. You have to spend money at a store in the mall to avoid paying the $7 parking fee.
-Most of the "sites" are stars homes, not haunted sites, and we stayed in the van the entire time (which, by the way, had no working seat belts).
-The tour guide pointed out Marilyn Monroe's house just one minute after telling us that it wasn't part of the tour (which wasn't even close to the same house that is pictured online as being the house she shared with Joe Dimaggio, as he claimed).
-Similarly, the "Mendez Brothers" house was always mysteriously completely different from the pictures that are publicly available. What the heck? How do you explain two houses changing size, shape, and make?
-Our tour lasted only an hour and a half, and we only visited one haunted site, the Tate house. Well, kind of. We saw the site where the house once stood...from the next hill over. Well, and we didn't see that since one of the residents they have been feuding with shined a SPOTLIGHT onto the van to blind us. Literally. I couldn't make this stuff up.

We left feeling lied to, cheated, and almost a hundred dollars poorer.

“Not a "haunted" tour, but still entertaining.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

"What could be a more haunted city than Hollywood?," one might ask. However, the ghosts were conspicuously absent from this tour which was essentially a "Homes of the Stars" tour. We did visit some famous murder sites, but the tour lacked the storytelling normally found on these types of tours. The tour lasted two hours and covered a lot of ground, but if you've already done a homes tour, this won't add much to what you've already seen.

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and humorous, but we were looking for a creepy experience! The tour manager (possibly the company owner) was terribly rude, and the price jumped from $35 as advertised on the website (which was totally uninformative, by the way) to $39 when we arrived. The accommodations (a van with the roof cut off) were less than satisfactory: The seat belts didn't work (as the tour guide humorously pointed out at one point) and the van was in need of a good vacuuming. The guide was kind enough to offer us blankets, as the tour got very chilly. Overall, it was an enjoyable tour, but not at all what we were looking for (and NOT what was advertised).
