The Getty center was one of the best things I did in LA, and its free, so such good value! I particularly enjoyed the French furniture from Louis XIVs time, and the impressionism collection including Van Gough, Monet and Munch. Not much modern art here, so go to LACMA if you are looking for that. Make sure you take advantage of the free audio guide, and free guided tours if you can, I went on one about Florentine art at the dawn of the renaissance, and expected it to be delivered by a volunteer, but instead we got a teacher from the Getty institute, so very knowledgeable about his subject. I went on a foggy day but the must cleared enough to tell me that there would be lovely views and gardens, so go on a clear day. Staff were incredibly helpful, suggesting best distances to view paintings, and really friendly. The cafe was reasonably priced too. I was there for 4-5 hrs but didn't see everything. Highly recommended.
