“Great place for when you're on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Like others have said, this is a great little motel for when you're visiting LA on a budget. The rooms are basic and no frills but have everything you need if you're just using the hotel for a base.

We only spoke with one member of staff who was the lady who checked us in but she was extremely friendly and gave us a helpful map and pointed out some local sights and restaurants. The welcome bag of snacks is a nice touch.

The parking is great and free which I believe is pretty tricky to come by in LA so this was really handy. Each room has a guaranteed spot.

The location is super handy for downtown LA. We visited the Bradbury building, Grand Central Market and Japantown on foot from Jerry's. It felt like quite a safe area too and it's easy to get to everywhere in LA from here.

The room itself was very basic but clean and has a TV with plenty of channels and the bed is very comfortable. We were on the second floor and slept very well. There's a fridge in the room and they provide muffins everyday. On the downside, some of the furnishing was a bit tatty, the shower was a bit dark and the shower curtain was a bit of a pain. Also there was a window that didn't have a blind and when a light came on a night, it woke us up as it was very bright but we learnt after the first night to cover it or wear an eye mask. However, these are just a few things that could be improved and don't detract from our overall stay.

Thank you Jerry's for a great stay!

Hi Germione,

Thank you very much for your review. We're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and that you thought our location and free parking were convenient for exploring Los Angeles.

Great job exploring downtown! The Bradbury Building is definitely our favorite building in Downtown LA, Grand Central Market is a great place to grab lunch or dinner, and Little Tokyo is the perfect place to grab a bite or buy Japanese trinkets.

Thanks for staying and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!

Upon arrival we were 1hour early, the front desk wasnt open but they had a operator phone to contact someone if checking in. We drive from central valley and just wanted our room to settle in already, he was so kind he actually took us in half an hour early. Gave us a map of all the places to visit and local restaurants and fast food places near buy. They even give goodie bags with awesome little snacks. The room is small, cozy and very clean. Me and my husband loved it....the bed was super comgy and extra sturdy to have some fun. The bonus was free parking!!! We would diff book at jerrys next time we are in town

Our jaws almost dropped when we found out how inexpensive this hotel is, and it is well worth it. The rooms are very no-frills, but they provide you with a basket of snacks and are very accommodating (we needed to leave our suitcases after checking out, they were very helpful). It was also extremely convenient to drive from there to anywhere else we needed to go across the entire city of Los Angeles, and I would absolutely stay there again!

Hi Laura V,

Thanks for your review! Glad our location worked our great for your travels and made it easy for you to get around Los Angeles. LA is huge, but downtown is definitely a good hub for the rest of the city when planning on visiting several different areas.

Thanks again for staying and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!

My daughter and I were visiting FIDM in downtown LA. We stayed with friends in West Hills for 3 nights but wanted one night close to the school for activities Friday and then a housing tour on Saturday. (we stayed Friday the 20th of March) We chose Jerry's after seeing the reviews on TA. We are not needy and just wanted a clean place to lay our head for the night.
The check in process was super fast and friendly. I rang on the phone and he was there to greet us immediately with maps, a bag of snacks/water and also gave us a list of nearby food options or delivery options and the wifi passwords.
The rooms are basic but the bed & pillows were SO COMFORTABLE like memory foam. The linens were crispy white and clean and the TV large with DirectTV. We were in room 5 on the lower level with parking right there in front of our room.
My rating of excellent is based on the type of property you are booking. Remember, this is a motel/budget property and is meant for a certain type of traveler.
Thank you Jerry's, we will definitely be back!

Hi grunthumb,

Thanks for sharing your feedback! It's great to hear you really enjoyed your stay and found our rooms to be comfortable. Although small, our staff works hard to keep them as clean and comfortable as possible.

Hope you had a fruitful visit at FIDM that will help your daughter make a decision. Good luck to her in her next endeavor and thank you so much for staying with us. We hope to see you again next time!

We chose this place for its location. It’s the perfect place to stay if you are commuting to the San Pedro Shipping Terminal or World Shipping Terminal (as it’s also referred to) in Long Beach to board a cruise as we were.
From LA airport take the Flyaway bus from the lower level ( No ticket required when boarding) to Union Station ( aprox 45 minutes depending on traffic)You’ll pay $8 either cash or credit card at the ticket booth when you alight the bus. Busses leave on the half hour. Walk through Union Station from the East side where the bus drops you off, to the West side taxi rank (a real treat in itself-just beautiful!!!) and grab a cab to Jerry’s Motel ( under $10.00)
From the street you wouldn’t think of staying here but it is truly well worth a visit. Thanks to TA we found this motel and weren’t disappointed. The room was large, clean and freshly carpeted. I was impressed with the new paintwork, A/C, TV, wifi, refrigerator, coffee/tea facilities, desk and drawers and the very comfortable bed, walk in wardrobe, and safe. The bed had fluffy white linens, and toiletries greeted us in the bathroom, a nice touch for a budget establishment. It exceeded our expectations in all ways. The bag of snacks on arrival were well received after an extremely long, delayed 15 hour flight and our breakfast muffins for the following morning were quickly consumed (and became dinner.) before we crashed with exhaustion. I retained not a word of the 10 minute introduction to the neighbourhood we received on arrival from the charming managing couple, but woke up after a brilliant sleep and read through all the paperwork I had received (which was self-explanatory.) I had the best sleep ever and loved the blue grey/white colouring of the room.
Just a short walk, bus ($1.75) or taxi ride, you are at the Blue line train to Long Beach. Take the train from the Metro station ( corner of 7th Street and Flower Street.) Take the lift downstairs if dragging luggage as we were. Purchase a tap card for $1 from the machine and load $3.50( fare for two pax) at the same time. Follow the signage to the platform to Long Beach( Blue Line) Trains leave regularly every 12 minutes and the journey takes 55mins. After alighting the train at Long Beach Transit Mall ( last stop), grab a taxi around the next corner to your right on the taxi rank for your trip over the bridge to the World Shipping Terminal ( $23)
This motel is a hidden gem in Downtown LA. There’s loads of parking at the front door. It’s quiet, tastefully decorated and everything a traveller requires for a perfect stay. Turning right out of the motel there are two options on the next corner. Right takes you into a not so brilliant Hispanic area and left takes you after a 10 minute walk right into the Downtown CBD and financial area. Both ways are definitely worth a look. There’s plenty of restaurants just around the corner and many liquor stores. A good find and well located. We weren’t disappointed and so cheap!!!!!

One does not usually think of a small motel when staying in the center of a major US city (at least not for most legitimate activities) but we decided to stay here based on the very positive TA reviews. Based on those effusively positive TA reviews, we were mildly disappointed that the rooms themselves are standard no-frills affairs (perfectly clean and acceptable, nonetheless). The staff were very friendly/helpful and the free parking was always available as advertised. Overall, we felt the room was probably worth $30-$40 less per night than what we paid but when one compares what any other lodging in/near downtown LA with parking costs, you can understand their pricing (this is the niche Jerry's fills so well: You want to be near downtown LA and have a car without spending $250/night). The actual neighborhood is fine and it's a 10 minute walk downhill to downtown (note that the uphill nature of the return trip is significant & that there are a few bus lines you can catch to get you most of the way back to Jerry's). Downtown LA (though infinitely better than my last trip 10 years ago) can still be a bit dicey at night and, as is the case with much of LA, features a staggeringly large mentally-ill homeless population. We also walked west from Jerry's to MacArthur Park which is quite an experience (especially if you are not familiar with the failed American policy of deinstitutionalization). The bodega next to Jerry's ("Lupita's") features half-litre sized bottles of real Mexican Coca-Cola as well as Mexican paletas among other treats. The short drive north to Guisados for Tacos is a must.

Hi TrotamundosBetis,

Thanks for your review. We're glad you gave us a try during your visit to LA. In recent years, small hotels, motels and inns have become increasingly popular with tourists and business travelers on a budget. Affordable prices along with free wifi, parking and clean rooms are appealing to travelers looking to save on their hotel and allocate more money to sightseeing, dining and shopping.

Los Angeles is definitely an interesting place full of diversity, and you're right, the downtown area has improved significantly in the last 10 years - new hip restaurants opening every month and new construction of shopping centers, lofts, apartments and luxury hotels is underway.

It's great that you made it to Guisado's! Definitely the best stew based tacos in LA. If you're back in the downtown LA area, they recently opened their second location in the Historic Core.

Thanks again for staying!

The good.

The first thing i noticed when coming here was the service. Because it's a small motel they remember each person and try to accommodate you as best they can. Free muffins/maps. I think it's in a pretty good location around some schools and studio lot. For a downtown hotel this area is nice/safe but as always in downtown LA at night just be careful. It's about a 20 minute walk to central LA and admittedly there isn't a lot interesting in the immediate vicinity. HDTV content on TV. Good pricing.

The average.
I was in the handicap room. I guess that's the least desirable room. I didn't hear any noise from the road and i'm a pretty light sleeper. There were 2 single beds. They were average.

The bad.
Old bar fridge. The kind that makes a loud clank when the compressor kicks in. Far worse than having no bar fridge IMO. Not frost free either so turning it off means it starts defrosting and dripping which is not ideal either.
Partitioning is pretty poor. can hear noises from above and in the next room

Hi FredThriftyTraveller,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We're glad to hear you found our overall location convenient. You are right, we are located in a residential area near 3 schools and Los Angeles Center Studios. A short walk east takes you straight to the Financial District and Music Center. Walk a little more and you'll be at City Hall, the Historic Core and Little Tokyo.

We apologize that the mini-fridge was too loud once the compressor kicks in. We are looking into alternatives that do not include a freezer in order to avoid the sound you are referring to. Sorry about that!

Thanks again for choosing to stay with us during your recent stay.
