My wife and I have great memories of special past dining experiences at Trader Vic’s Restaurants, thus while in Los Angeles for our anniversary we noticed a Trader Vic’s next to the J W Marriott Live we decided to go there for our anniversary dinner. We arrived at about 5:45 pm, and asked to be seated in the lounge, as we noticed they had a happy hour. After waiting at the head of the line for over ten minutes the hostess informed us that there were no tables for a party of “two”, this even though over half of the lounge was empty. After over thirty minutes, we inquired as numerous other patrons ( parties of three or more ) had been seated in the lounge, however were again told there were no tables for parties of two. After forty five minutes we again asked a different employee for the manager, and we were informed she was a “ manager “ however she could not help as they have a policy of seating parties of two only after larger parties. Soon thereafter two other parties of two, that had waited behind us, simply informed the hostess they were parties of four , and were immediately seated. (even though there were only two ) , we asked to speak to a manager. A male approached and told us we had to wait and that he did not have a customer service number for Trader Vic’s to call. Needless to say after waiting over an hour, being refused a table in the lounge, that had empty tables, we left. We walked to the Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at L.A. Live and were greeted immediately by the host who immediately seated us, and after hearing we had missed happy hour at Trader Vic’s had our waitress offer us the Flemming’s happy hour menu. The drinks and food at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at L.A. Live was great and the customer service was outstanding . Marissa, our server at Flemming’s was great, and anticipated our every need, and Arik, the manager at Flemming’s was seen making rounds, making sure all the patrons at Flemming’s were enjoying their dining experience. In short ALL the employees at Trader Vic’s need to be given a copy of the Trader Vic’s policy:
“Trader Vic’s has always made service a priority and the restaurant has taken service to a new level. The staff is outgoing, approachable, gracious, committed and knowledgeable. Just as important, they anticipate each guest’s needs in a way that makes each feel special, but that is not forced or overbearing. It’s a magical service formula perfected over years and unmatched by any other.”
