Haven't been to what used to be our favorite steak restaurant Mortons (Beverly Hills location) for awhile, preferring Ruth's Chris. Decided to celebrate our 20th Anniversary here. The place was nearly empty on a Sunday evening. Our server was wonderful, but the rest was not! Everything was overdone. My "medium rare" steak came only slightly pink in the center (Medium well?), and my wife's "medium" filet had no pink whatsoever (Well?). Grilled asparagus was grilled too long, leaving chared areas. My fries were so brittle they broke when a fork was struck in one. My wife ordered the lobster tail/filet combo. When the main course arrived, there was no lobster tail. The manager explained it "fell apart" while cooking. When the new one arrived, it was also overdone...dry as paper...no moisture at all. As a change of pace, the souffle was UNDER cooked, half of it being a mushy mess. The salads were excellent ! Their home made Bleu Cheese dressing is outstanding.
I am usually very generous in reviewing lodging and restaurants, but this was a real disappointment. They did however, have a special menu printed for us wishing us a happy 20th anniversary, and they took a photo and made a very nice card, signed by the staff. A nice touch which mitigated the food perparation. Is it possible they had a new chef, or oven/grill problems? I can't believe this happens all the time there.
The writer before me complained about the seating manager. He seemed OK, but a bit impersonal when we were seated, but as my wife and I passed him by at his desk at the front door on the way out, neither he or a female hostess acknowledged us, or said even a "Thanks for coming in!" Now that's just plain wrong. To top it off, there was an on-line survey on our receipt to complete. I did, and never received a response. Oh well, back to Ruth's Chris.
