We stayed at the Westin LAX for two nights because we needed something close to the airport. Their free airport shuttle worked great for us, and we could walk right next door to Thrifty to pick up our rental car, therefore not having to pay for parking!
Despite the hotel being busy with conventions we received great service from the front desk, the bellmen and shuttle drivers, and we received our wake-up call exactly when we requested it.
We had two rooms, one on the eighth floor, one on the eleventh - both rooms faced the street. We could hear airplanes, but not loud enough to lose sleep over. Then again, I love airplanes so I could sit there and watch them land for hours! I briefly heard the dogs barking that other people have mentioned, but only faintly.
The room itself was typical Westin with all of the standard amenities, although with two (very comfortable!) Queen beds I thought the room was a bit small. Functionally everything in the room worked great. Cosmetically the room was very clean, although the door to the minibar cabinet didn't open properly because it was only hanging on by one hinge. I also noticed one electrical outlet that was starting to come loose from the wall. Everything in the bathroom was great and all of the plumbing worked fine.
Breakfast at Westin hotels is normally expensive, so we hit one of the fast food places down the street - an easy walk. Century Blvd. is busy, but the Westin has a stop light with a crosswalk so you can easily and safely cross the street.
The swimming pool looked very clean, and we used the hot tub which was also clean and seemed to work fine. Never made use of the workout room.
Overall, this was a very convenient airport hotel. If given the choice, I'd stay here again.
