The reason I'm labelling this hotel "average" is because I got a $70 deal on hotwire and because the staff, unlike many LA Airport officials, treated me like a human being. The idea of paying the rackrate would have been absolutely ridiculous. It's an ok place for an overnight stay -- and, against my expectations, the shuttle was prompt and efficient, the receptionist (I think she was German and her name was Daniella -- give her a pay rise, Westin!) was welcoming, friendly and professional. The room was dowdy and the lounger was saggy, but the bed was comfortable and clean; the bathroom was a bit mouldy and at first only boiling hot water managed to come out of the taps but upon letting it run for a few minutes it got cold. When I rang up to report this problem, the reply was efficient, helpful and again, yes, friendly. The pool area was very uninviting -- in the afternoon a crowd was hanging out and making it pretty clear that this was their space. When I went for a swim early in the morning the pool area hadn't been cleaned up, discarded towels everywhere, and, much worse, glasses just sitting on the side of the pool -- very dangerous. When I left in the morning the shuttle was again on time and efficient. Didn't use the restaurant. Room service was ok and friendly. My wake up call came on time. Considering the overall lousy quality of LAX hotels I would probably stay there again if I got a similar deal -- this could have been a lot worse.

We stayed here for one night (08/09) before our long-haul early morning flight home - it turned out to be one LONG night for me! The room was nice enough and the beds clean and comfortable - can't complain about the bathroom either and there was a small decked area with a hot-tub which we didn't use. We ate dinner in the restaurant downstairs, food very nice - bit pricey but nice, however, the service was terrible. The waiters seemed old and slow, he forgot to bring the drinks we had ordered and I noticed a guest at a nearby table sending his meal back because it was incorrect - we thought it was quite funny and just had a laugh about it because it was so un-typical of the service we had gotten used to in the U.S But the worst was yet to come! Our room was located on the same floor as the health-suite and obviously akin to it separated by very thin walls. We went to bed at about 9.30pm as we had to get up early to catch the flight and had 2 kids under 8yrs old to organise but I felt like I never slept a wink. We could hear people pounding on the treadmills until 2am and it was so loud I felt they must be in the same room, there was a bit of a lull for a few hours and then it stared up again before 5am. During the 'lull' from the noisy gym the corridors outside our room (which was on the corner of the intersection and near the lifts) filled up with loud, noisy people who sounded like they were returning from an interesting evening at the bar or some party. Cigarette smoke filitered into our room from the corridors outside and I heard a full-scale jokey conversation about how - 'you shouldn't be smoking up here'. By this stage I was frustrated, tired and thinking about how I was going to survive the 13hr plane journey home without having slept the night before. I think I managed short intervals of 15-20mins sleep somewhere in that nightmare night. My only consulation was that I got the room for $88 on hotwire (I thought an airport hotel is an airport hotel -can't be that bad) but to be honest would have rather paid more and got some sleep! Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.

I stayed at the Westin from July 29th to Aug 9th, 2005. The health center has 5 treadmills and 3 elliptical machines. All have televisions attached. There is only 1 out of all 8 televisions that work properly. The sauna is also broken. I waited 5 minutes at the restaurant entrance and was never seated. There was restaurant staff walking around and looking my way the whole time. I left and ate at the bar. I have never felt so ignored and insulted. The broadband Internet connection was very poor. The connection would not stay connected and when it did, the connection was as slow as dial up speed. Also, this connection will NOT connect to [-] (Google email) or [-] (Comcast email). If I cannot check my email than this connection is useless.

The front desk was happy to remove some internet charges. I sent this complaint to their website last week and the hotel never responded.

The last stay was my second stay at this property due to an early morning flight. The first stay, 9 months earlier should have been the last.

That first time there were three conventions at the hotel (which is quite large). I had worked a 14 hour day prior to leaving on a 7AM flight. I was awakened at about 4AM by 20 howling teenagers in the process of affixing sanitary products and toilet paper to the door of an adjacent room. By the time I contacted security and was thoroughly awake (and upset, tired and grouchy) I just packed it in and went to the airport earlier than planned.

Stupidly I booked a second stay there in March, again a very early flight, but I had enough Starwood points to make it worth taking a second chance. Upon check in I inquired about conventions etc. and specifically asked to be placed away from an elevator and on a high floor on the quieter side of the building. I then found out that the hotel was hosting a few hundred (at least, maybe more) tap dancing teenagers in a massive dance student competition. Then I saw them (they were everywhere and this was about 10:30 at night)....Fortunately I told my tale of previous woe to the desk clerk and I was accomodated with a room in the 'Starwood Preferred' part of the building....told that only kids with parents were in that part of the hotel. Needless to say, there seemed to be a crowd in the next room enjoying themselves well into the night.

The rooms which once might have had some promise, are tired and show a lot of wear. Things are broken or partially broken or missing parts...like the coffee maker, and I didn't feel that things were fresh, pristine, clean. Stains on furniture and carpet should just not be something a hotel guest at any price level should need to deal with. The bathrooms are kind of scummy and worn, as well.

Given Westins advertising as an upscale property, this one does not live up to expectations.

We flew into LA from London, arriving late and had just one whole day in LA, leaving early the following day so an airport hotel was perfect for our needs. I was a little dubious following some of the reviews on this site but the hotel did the job - it was an airport hotel, clean, comfortable (particularly the beds) and exactly what we'd paid for. Yes, we heard the dogs in the kennels and if you listened you heard the odd aircraft but in no way did these keep us awake. The most disturbance came from other guests who were a bit noisy on walking past the room. The breakfast buffet was good and the waiter at breakfast was incredibly helpful. I would definitely stay here again. If you're a light sleeper and you don't want to be disturbed by noise then I suggest you don't book an airport hotel.
