The reason I'm labelling this hotel "average" is because I got a $70 deal on hotwire and because the staff, unlike many LA Airport officials, treated me like a human being. The idea of paying the rackrate would have been absolutely ridiculous. It's an ok place for an overnight stay -- and, against my expectations, the shuttle was prompt and efficient, the receptionist (I think she was German and her name was Daniella -- give her a pay rise, Westin!) was welcoming, friendly and professional. The room was dowdy and the lounger was saggy, but the bed was comfortable and clean; the bathroom was a bit mouldy and at first only boiling hot water managed to come out of the taps but upon letting it run for a few minutes it got cold. When I rang up to report this problem, the reply was efficient, helpful and again, yes, friendly. The pool area was very uninviting -- in the afternoon a crowd was hanging out and making it pretty clear that this was their space. When I went for a swim early in the morning the pool area hadn't been cleaned up, discarded towels everywhere, and, much worse, glasses just sitting on the side of the pool -- very dangerous. When I left in the morning the shuttle was again on time and efficient. Didn't use the restaurant. Room service was ok and friendly. My wake up call came on time. Considering the overall lousy quality of LAX hotels I would probably stay there again if I got a similar deal -- this could have been a lot worse.
