“Fantastic Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We stayed for 5 nights in September. We could not fault anything, the location is superb with great bars and restaurants nearby. The stunning beach is a ten second walk.
Yes, the house is quirky but isn't that why people book the place. We never had to wait for a bathroom. The breakfast was more than adequate to fuel up. The cakes in the afternoon were great. We found the staff very friendly.
We would recommend it, it's not the Santa Monica Fairmount Miramar so be realistic and enjoy!

Good points are: a few steps from the beach and not far away from the airport. House is old, in the need of maintenance. Chambers are noisy, carpets are smeary. In the weekend is this neighbouring not very quiet. Staff could be more attentive. We were with three persons, got towels for two. At 8pm an other guest knocked at our door because he'd lost his key and didn't found someone to help him. Breakfast items were available in a first come first serve way but were not replenished. All in all charming from the outside, overrated at the inside and certainly overpriced for what you get.

Venice Beach House was built in 1911. It became an inn some 40 years later, but preserves much of the character of a private home, so the visitor can enjoy an experience far removed from staying in a conventional modern chain. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Each room or suite has individual identity. The quaint character inevitably brings with it some of the issues of age, such as dated plumbing and well aged furniture. Our suite looked out on to the lawned area of the yard. Another side of the house offers a covered terrace, with various casual seating options. The reception/lounge area has couches, a selection of interesting books, and an eating area where buffet breakfast is offered - cereals, fresh baked goods, fruit, bagels and muffins to toast, and hard boiled eggs, along with percolated coffee, OJ or tea.

In both our suite and our travelling companions' room there was a pleasingly eclectic selection of books lining the shelves, encouraging the traveler with time available to dip in and sample volumes from well back in the 20th century up to the recent past. Our choices included the classic 11th edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica, a well-worn set despite its recent displacement by Wikipedia and the like.

Venice Beach House sits a short block from the beach, and also just a few yards from Washington Boulevard which offers close at hand numerous eating options, several small markets, fishing tackle, skate or surfboard hire, bars and early coffee service (from 5am) in at least two cafes. The inn has seven parking places, available by reservation for a daily fee.

This inn will not suit every traveller. Shared bathrooms for a number of its nine rooms will put off some visitors, and the laid back style of the management might not suit others. But if you want a unique experience as part of an unhurried trip to this lively corner of LA, Venice Beach House could be your private retreat from the lively, cosmopolitan scene all around you.

Room Tip: Sound travels within a historic building of this age. Upstairs probably means less noise from movem...

We stayed in the B&B in mid September. It was quite and peaceful. This is a lovely historic home. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good and very healthy lots of fruit and gluten free item (however it was not marked and by accident I found out it was gluten free) having gluten issues I do not eat anything that is not clearly marked. The second morning our eggs were raw, the staff quickly fixed it but.. the room was quant and very clean, the grounds were lovely. The house needs some maintenance in the bathroom some of the windows etc however I would stay there again.

Really cute boutique hotel/B&B right in Venice Beach. Staff was amazing, room was very cozy and clean, and best of all, it was only a block away from the beach (where we spent most of our time). Lots to do in the area for couples (us), and families. We were worried about the noise since it's close to the action, but we didn't hear anything. Will go back.

We stayed here for one night in the "Olympic Suite". The location is excellent. One block from Venice Beach but not near the seedy end. It was quiet at night. The grounds were lovely and it was relaxing to sit in the garden and great that there was affordable car parking.

However given what we paid for the room, the service and maintenance was not up to scratch. Service was lacking both on check in and check out as we were kept waiting while the receptionist either dealt with a phone call or unrelated paperwork. Also our the shower in our room needed basic but necessary maintenance which had clearly been overlooked for some time and the breakfast though tasty was disorganized.

The Venice Beach house is a beautiful large home in a perfect location just a block back from the beach and very close to the bustling Washington St. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We had a package delivered before arrival and they were kind enough to look after it for us.
The rooms are a decent size and the 2 shared bathrooms are on the same level, we never had to wait long to use one. Looking forward to staying here next time I'm in LA.
