“Excellent stay and service - Michael concierge thank you.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

This is an excellent convention hotel. Lots going on. All the bells and whistles that you would expect from this type of property.
Staff were very good and friendly. Michael concierge came to the rescue when my shuttle did not show to get me to the airport. Thank you sir.
The restaurant staff were a bit hit or miss, I had the continental breakfast each day for three days. It was very good in content and choice, the oatmeal was superb! simple think but done very well. The servers on two of the days tried to ding me for the cost of the full hot buffet even after I had identified only the cold section. The waiter on the third day was excellent and billed correctly. Minor things.
Overall this is a terrific property, big clean new rooms, a vibrant lobby atmosphere, reasonable charges for wifi and also a good location for convention delegates.
I used the pool one afternoon and it is a nice quiet oasis.
Thank you - Great stay - Kudos to Michael for jumping in and getting me to the airport on time.

Room Tip: Any rooms seemed fine, checkout the pool if you need to escape the energy of a busy schedule.

This is my first time staying at a JW Marriott, and you can tell from the décor and service, that its step above the Marriott or other brands under their umbrella.

Pros:
- Right at LA Live - Staples and Nokia Centers
- Plenty of restaurants and places to drink nearby at LA Live that are open late.
- Nice, modern room with one of the nicer bathrooms for a hotel.
- Service is great, but probably what you pay for.
- 10-15 mins from Universal Studios and Hollywood and pretty close to the freeway.
- Rooms are a good size and can easily be shared with 4 people if needed.
- Rooms are very clean and kept new!
- Beds were extremely comfortable.
- Great location for people watching.

Cons:
- Valet parking only - $40/night (though very convenient and well organized).
- Bars downstairs are pricey since they are shared directly with the Ritz Carlton.
- Most restaurants are expensive at LA Live.
- There is a rooftop pool, but in the afternoon is completely shaded by the overshadowing Ritz, so forget trying to get any sun. There is supposed to be a bar up there too, but it was not open on a Saturday afternoon.

I would definitely stay here again if the price was reasonable for our next trip. I would not recommend it for people who don't like crowds though, since LA Live can get pretty busy. My room overlooked the entrance near the movie theater though and I didn't hear much noise despite the number of people down below.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces into LA Live, rather than Olympic Blvd for better people watching.

Planned a special weekend at JW Marriott to attend a wedding and celebrate my birthday and anniversary. Made sure it was noted on the reservation. At the front desk no acknowledgement of special occasion, very unfriendly and cold reception. At first we were given a room with large dish antenna view. After we went back to the front desk and reminded them about our special occasion requests they reluctantly after we spoke to a front desk supervisor changed our room to another roof view on a little higher floor. We brought a champagne bottle to celebrate and come to find out the refrigerator is not working. Called to have it checked or changed and was completely ignored by the hotel staff. To make the matters worse we were given a room next to a bachelorette party. A room full of young people up all night and the next day having a very good time but loud.
The next day we called to speak to management about our issues and was told there are no manager on staff on weekends and we have to wait and contact them on weekdays!! They stated a front desk supervisor is at work but not available at the moment. She also ignored to contact us back and later had to go downstairs to front desk to find her. Her response to all our issues was, she did not feel hotel had any responsibility since she did not see special occasion on your reservation noted and we should have called security about the noise. She felt she was being super generous by offering 50% off one night rate, since it was our choice to put up with the noise.
Birthday and Anniversary spoiled by very cold, impersonal customer service at JW Marriott. The staff at this hotel should be reminded that they are in Hospitality Business.

Room Tip: Not a good hotel for special occasion.

As I check in I was not even acknowledged as an elite customer. Nothing was offered, room ,upgrade, a complimentary breakfast as it is established in the Marriott we side. Ok upgrades depend on availability, therefore they always say ,no. That was the case here. I told them I was an elite member, then they offered a complimentary breakfast because I had to go through the embarrassment is asking. Room was ok, as any room in any other Marriott hotel with a view of a highway and the construction of a Courtyard. It took then one hour and 8 minutes to deliver a toothbrush and a shaving kit... Things that any other JW will have in their rooms for their guests. Their excuse " sorry we are backed up" so tell me when I call so I can go buy one.
Waiter at breakfast was very dry and impolite. No customer service at all.
Lounge closes during weekends. JW that I've been have lounges opened 7 days. If you want good service avoid JW in USA and experience them abroad. Example Shanghai, Malaysia and , Cairo among others. Want a good Marriott hotel in LA? Stay at the airport LAX Marriott. Very professional and even have an elite check in counter.
I'm very displeased with this JW so going else where is a good idea

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back part of the hotel.

Conference was at the L A convention center, Nokia as well as the Hotel....so very convenient location but you certainly pay for that convenience. Great $$$$$ hotel.!. Staples Center outside your door and the Kings were in the playoffs. Great restaurants in the hotel as well as outside (walking distance from the door). Bowling alley just steps away. Great rooms, amenities and accommodations in the hotel. expensive parking!!! Great Friendly Staff (at every level-bell/valet,housekeeping and restaurant in particular) and very helpful front desk staff when needing information. And Yes!!! I would stay there again.

Room Tip: NO Problem with flashing signs even though they were probably on all night. Great window coverings...

Checking in in a lively pulsing cavernous lobby seemed like a loud blurry whirling fog to someone like me who was sleepless with jet lag... and it didn't seem promising... but when we headed out to get our bearings and explore the hotel it all came together and made sense! The lively soaring lobby has reception, a coffee shop, a wine bar, restaurants and access by escalator and elevator to conference rooms and public spaces. It spills out into the LA Live Center area but actually offers an easy and welcome respite from the sun, crowds and chaos that you can find just steps away.
The hotel is shiny like a brand new penny. Rooms contain thoughtful amenities such as a motion sensor night light in the bathroom, a well stocked coffee/tea area, comfortable chairs and light blocking curtains. The windows are probably sound deadening as well because the throngs of people on the streets below barely penetrated. (we were on the 4th floor)
The gym is well equipped and lively as well.
Helpful staff, an unflappable concierge, especially kind breakfast waitstaff... not a bad oasis, eh?

Room Tip: If your room is eye level or lower than the herbalife buidding sign across the way, it will be as br...

This is a brash showbiz type hotel with plenty of lobby activity. It's not really quite "JW" level if you are visiting from Asia but it's not bad as Marriotts in the US go. I think they class it as a 4 star. You might prefer the Ritz Carlton next door if you want a true 5 star.

The rooms are comfortable and quiet, providing the neighboring guests behave themselves. There were a few bent out of shape light fittings in my room but nothing too disturbing. I didn't love the room design, but there is a detectable (modern) design which might not age well. The white towels were graying slightly and were thoroughly unplump/sumptuous, and should be replaced very soon. Rooms come with an empty refrigerator, and there's a City Target and a 7-11 about 3 blocks away for anyone seeking drinks etc.

Found I got very poor phone reception in the room and elsewhere in the hotel (T-Mobile) and this made things difficult at times. Room wireless speed was good though.

Lobby restaurant was okay, service quite good, menu limited but the whole place is an acoustics nightmare, so get ready to shout if you have something to say. And several times I got in the elevator to go to my room and found food and trash on the floor which was a bit styish.

The parking at this hotel is caught up in some kind of hotel/parking/entertainment industry cartel scenario/game which cannot easily be understood by the unsuspecting guest--at least that's how it appeared to me. However, the hotel's $40/day minimum charge plus "unnecessary" (but absolutely expected!) tips will definitely speak loud and clear to such a guest. The tips go to the valets. It is forbidden to park and retrieve your own car from the hotel car park. The valets do this for you, with gusto...especially if your car is a Ferraraghini or some other such rarity. Do they give tax receipts for those copious "in and out" tips?

There are alternative "independent" parking lots nearby with various rules which invariably include "No overnight" (part of the game mentioned earlier!) which is a problem for guests. These lots also vary their rates according to demand as shows come and go at the nearby venues.

My solution to this $40+ per day parking problem required a three block, 8 minute walk walk...which was fine for me and I deducted the physical effort from my gym workout (the gym is quite good by the way!). I parked at 833 Flower Street for $12 for 24hrs. It's a multi-storey car park with urine free elevators and generous bays. I encountered only well-fed looking, cup waving beggars on my walks to and from, and they were all polite (...and all politely refused..without recriminations!). On days when I returned to the hotel for a short time during the day, I just parked across the road for $5. So basically I never paid more than $17/day, and usually only $12/day.

The gym was well equipped and the pool area was pleasant enough but I didn't use it at all.

I would stay in this hotel again, especially if I were attending a conference or a show/game/concert...especially now I've figured out a good parking arrangement.

Room Tip: Take a clip to hold your curtains firmly together. There are bright flashing LED displays on the sou...
