“another outstanding stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

The JW Marriott in LA is an excellent property located right in the heart of
downtown LA. New, clean, modern and impeccable service from the very helpful
friendly staff. The only negative I can put on the Hotel is the Mini Bar was empty. - 5 stars.

The hotel is very nice, but the lobby has constant loud music. It's extremely unpleasant to be in the lobby more than a few moments. Since all the food servicse open on to the lobby it affects my desire to eat at the hotel.

I was really looking forward to staying at this upgraded JW Marriott for a convention. It was ok, but not better than your standard Marriott. It's new and located conveniently near the convention center, which is a plus. The hotel also has a lot of meeting rooms which are nicely equipped. Room service was merely ok for the food. The bar in the lobby was awesome with nice California wines and a lovely cheese plate. So, it was ok for a convention, but I wouldn't go back for vacation.

Hotel was clean, modern, and beautiful. A wonderful place to stay although the surrounding downtown area seems a bit "dead" for LA (unless there's a Lakers or Kings game)! The food served during our dinner event in the ballroom was AMAZING. Some of the best hotel food I've ever had.

I had the opportunity to stay at the J.W. Marriott - L.A. Live recently. It was, at best, a mixed bag of positive and negative experiences. First off, I am being purposefully picky with this review because of the price. Even with a discounted rate, because of a convention, the room was between $250-$300 a night. For that level of expenditure, I expect a very high level of service. The rooms themselves are well designed and nicely appointed. The armoire is a nice feature for business travelers; well lit with plenty of hanger space & an easy to operate safe for electronic equipment and other valuables. The bathroom has a nice sliding glass door, which conserves on space and allows for a well lit small room. The clock radio is also iPod compatible, a nice touch.
On the whole, the staff was well spoken, pleasant, and helpful.

That being said, why only 3 out of 5? Here's why. The beds were oddly uncomfortable. Lumpy and a tendency to bend toward the center. An absence of hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes and towels. Room service food was consistently mediocre. Of the 3 meals we ate via room service, none were outstanding or memorable. Additionally, items were consistently omitted or changed on each of our orders by accident. Although the staff made this right, by comping meals, it indicates an error in their ordering processes. In my mind, though, was the egregious parking situation. For a city built around the automobile, the hotel offers no 24 hour overnight self-park option. The L.A. Live garages do not allow for overnight parking, and will penalize you as much as $50 for doing so. Thus, your only option is to valet park for $40 a day. As a result, I wound up spending about double what I thought I would in parking fees.

Thus, a mixed bag. A very nice hotel, with excellent service, that suffers from multiple annoying flaws made notable due to the cost of the rooms.

Great new hotel adjacent to convention center and sports arena. Part of LA Live complex. Has a Las Vegas strip kind of energy. Oh, and the hotel is excellent too. Clean and modern, great welcoming service. Very modern and vibrant energy and feel to the public spaces. Surrounded by many new excellent restaurants. Great central downtown location. Brilliant concept.

Room Tip: Away from elevators.

Fantastic hitel, nice rooms and everything is very new. We had a great view of downtown LA and modern, clean spaces. The area around it is good and getting better; LA live is teeming with restaurants and has a nice movie theatre with 14 screens coming up. There's a bowling alley, Starbucks and the Staples center right there, but you'll need a car to get around if you want to go any further than LA live. It is also next to teh Grammy museum, well worth a visit.
