“Excellent Business Trip Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

JW Marriott is a great chain high end hotel. The customer service was excellent and prompt when I needed anything. The checkin and checkout procedure was quick..even with a big company event of more than a few hundred guests staying here. Comfortable beds. The hotel location is excellent for close dining options- ate at WolfGang Puck's restaurant and Katsuya sushi restaurant. Both were great dining experiences. The sushi at Katsuya is fantastic. The hotel is also within walking distance (right across the street) to the LA Convention center, the Staples Center. No worries for safety while walking even at night in that area. Would definitely recommend staying here. If you want to sight celebrities this may be a good hotel..we saw a few during our stay.

One of my favorite hotels. Check in can take a bit long depending on when you arrive; rooms are clean, spacious, and tastefully designed. Views are great, may want to not get room with views of Nokia Plaza as the light show may keep you awake. Parking is easy access. Illy coffee bar downstairs, and Starbucks just accross the way. We've stayed here for events at Staples, Hollywood Bowl, and Paramont-always convenient. The Spa is actually shared with the Ritz, but offers fantastic (if a bit pricey) massages.

The hotel lobby can be jumping, but it is in LA Live. Highly recommend.

I stayed here while attending an event at the Nokia theater and then the convention center the following day. I walked to both places! No cab needed!
You can also walk to the Staples center and all the wonderful restaurants that surround the area. The metro red-line is very close by as well. It can get you to hollywood or universal city in a matter of minutes! Not to mention its cheaper than a cab ride and quicker than sitting in LA traffic!

As for the rooms, you will feel relaxed and comfortable with the very comfy beds, great views and really gorgeous modern decor. There is a pool on the roof as well as Starbucks in the lobby and two happening bars in the evenings. The hotel is also connected to the Ritz Carlton which share the valet and lobby.

Love this hotel and I will be returning. I tell all my friends to stay here when going to the Nokia/ L.A live because it is literally located out the back doors of this hotel. Ask for a higher floor room, the views at night are gorgeous!

I've stayed at the JW Marriott LA Live twice for conferences and both times its clear that this hotel aims to please. This hotel is huge with thousands of rooms, however, it is very QUIET. I never heard any of my neighbors even though the hotel was filled to capacity. The conference space is wonderful and highly recommended. There are small meeting rooms and very large rooms to hold more than 2000 people. The staff is generally accommodating and room service is super fast.

The restaurant and bar in the lobby are very good. And right outside the door is Starbucks and a bunch of other restaurants affiliated with the Staples Center. Not much fine dining, but staples like the ESPN Zone, a few other burger joints and maybe Chinese.

Downside to staying at this hotel - its in the gentrifying downtown, so there is little to walk to and hardly no shopping (though a supermarket is within a 10 minute walk). If you like burgers and salad and Asian and Latin fusion food, then the restaurants in the vicinity will suffice, if not, the food choices can leave a bit to be desired.

Stayed here for five nights while on business. Lots going on in the evenings at LA Live, but the room was very QUIET. Certainly up to JW Marriott quality. LA prices for bar and restaurant, ie, $19 for a glass of wine. (Walk to Ralph's and get a couple of bottles for that price. lol) Room very clean, with refrigerator, no microwave. Negative as noted in other reviews, confusing, slow elevators, charge for wi-fi in rooms. As long as someone else is paying, it's a great place to stay. Once one gets away from LA Live, it is not a great place to be. Notice from our corporation said to travel in groups if venturing a couple of blocks from the area. For the price, I'd rather stay along the beach.

I spent five nights at this Marriott in December, there for business. No hotel is perfect, but this was certainly a comfortable stay, and the positive outweighed the glitches.

The positive - clean and modern decor, with warm colors. Wardrobe with full-length mirror, light, iron and ironing board, robes. All the expected amenities (mini-fridge, coffee maker, etc.). Friendly service (concierge brought an item I left in the elevator to my door, front desk took a message at an awkward moment, friendly greetings from the cleaning staff in the hallways.). The outdoor heated pool and hot tub on the fourth floor was a a real treat (and this was December). The access to and ease of printing out boarding passes was great. And the location was wonderful.

Room for improvement - using room cards in the elevators was a real pain. To go to the guest floors you had to fumble with your card, and sometimes your floor was passed before you got it in. Often the cards had to be reinserted multiple times. Even the concierge apologized for this and said that it was a known problem. At times of heavy usage, the fitness room was not always well cared for. Although the room and bathroom were very nicely cleaned, there were inconsistencies, such as forgetting to restock a stirrer for the coffee (I used the ice tongs!) or to replace the shampoo. And when I went to put a drink in the mini-fridge, I found an old drink and yogurt from a previous guest (luckily not too old!). Finally, it seems a shame that Internet access is included at cheap motels around the country but not a higher end hotel like this. Another gripe - no place to hang your towels next to the sink and tub (only two hooks, on the other side of the room.) They ask you to hang towels as an eco-measure, but don't give you space to do so.

Overall, a good stay.

The JW Marriott is a new hotel in downtown LA. It's in a nice renovated area of the downtown right next to The Staples center. There are a lot of walking areas and restaurants around the hotel. Good hotel to stay if you see a show at the Nokia theater which is literally 30 second walk from the hotel.
We used the Ritz Carlton spa associated with the hotel, which was nice, maybe a bit too modern decor, only problem, it did not have a jacuzzi in it, had to go to the rooftop pool area on a different floor to use a jacuzzi. The pool area was actually very cool and relaxing.
My only problem with the hotel was with the valet only parking. You have to pick your car on a different floor. If I have to pay 40 dollars to park I expect to be pampered, not be inconvenienced to get the car on a different area and take a different elevator. If I do all that work, might as well park the car myself.
