“Terrific experience for any hotel, especially a giant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is a great option for a giant downtown hotel. The room was fabulous with high-floors and great views, tons of space and a beautiful bathroom. The service was sharp and polite. It has great access to LA Live and the convention center. It was an excellent experience. Among the better if not best Marriott experiences I've had.

From the moment you are greeted by multiple hosts at the front desk, to the quality and size of the rooms and restaurant/bar areas, this hotel is an exceptional place to attend a convention. Great location; great amenities, great people watching lobby. The only minor challenge was with internet access in the room. While free, the access was slow and not up to par.

Room Tip: Rooms on north side offer view of downtown Los Angeles.

Modern large facility--new rooms with all the gadgets--even a small fridge. Spacious bathroom with huge walkin shower. Wonderful HVAC system: A/C & heat as you wish. Good elevator system & large, well equipped health club. Beautiful outdoor pool with adequate seating, nice lounges, chilled water, etc. Spacious lobby w/ nice coffee shop & lots of varied seating. Nice downtown location. Excellent convention facilities & great event food.Downside: lost part of our reservation, which slowed down ck in. very poor internet service (contracted outside) & lots of noise in the evening from LA Live. These keep the JW from being outstanding.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which does not face any part of LA Live

A hotel where the action is indeed, in the heart of it all...beautiful modern decor, and ultra modern atmosphere in this hotel, in downtown LA, with excellent comfort and equally good food... we spent two nights here and enjoyed two wonderful nights as well as fun filled days in LA, Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
The hotel staff are friendly, helpful, and very down-to-earth in a city where one might think otherwise, based on all we see and hear. However, the hotel is quite interesting in itself, with people coming and going by the hundreds as one conference after another unfolds for its guests.
Yet even though it is busy, it is also impeccably clean, with rooms prepared quickly and efficiently, and with care to provide all the amenities.
We were very pleased with the services as well as the atmosphere and overall comfort and would gladly return if the opportunity arises.
We also really liked the breakfast buffet, which included virtually anything the palate desired for breakfast, from the classic bacon and eggs through to smoked salmon, with hot delicious cereal as well. A culinary delight for buffet breakfast!!
We highly recommend the hotel if staying in the LA downtown area.

Pros: Still feels like a newly built property; clean lobby and largish rooms. Walking distance to LA Live, Staples Center, Convention Center, etc. Just off the freeway, so no long drives down surface streets. Cab ride from airport is about $50, but colleagues said it only took about 30 minutes in fairly heavy traffic. Not far from historic districts of downtown - about a mile to Broadway with all its interesting old buildings. Great coffee at illy in lobby; Starbucks also available just outside hotel. Decent choice of so-so restaurants outside hotel - not the best food LA has to offer, but at least you have a selection.

Cons: Close to LA Live, Staples Center, etc ... so if you're not there for events at those places traffic around the hotel can be heavy, nearby bars and restaurants can be loud and obnoxious. North-facing rooms have noise from construction site across the street starting at 6:30am - woke me up before my alarm went off each morning, and I was sleeping with ear plugs. Stupidly expensive $40/night parking ($32 if you're driving a hybrid). No self-parking; valet only. (That said, the valet service was very fast, very efficient, both for drop off and pick up.) Neighborhood immediately around hotel doesn't have much in the way of character - generic chain restaurants.

Tips: Ask for north-facing room for nice few of downtown LA ... with the downside of aforementioned construction noise.

I was here recently for a conference, the hotel is situated in the heart of L.A. Live, an area consisting of numerous top-shelf restaurants, the Staples Center, Nokia Theater, and the LA Convention Center, there is also an outdoor pavilion that seems to host nightly events. The hotel is new, modern, and well appointed. Staff is excellent. Rooms were beautiful and comfortable with a spacious shower. Internet worked well. About the only minor nit is a limited room-service menu, probably because they want to get you out into the restaurant scene. If you are facing the Staples Center, you will also hear loud music until about 10:30, and there's a massive video wall on the next-door Ritz Carlton that runs all night, so pull your curtains shut tightly. I would definitely stay here again if in LA for business.

We stayed at the Marriott LA Live while working at a convention at the nearby LA Convention Center. Everything about this hotel was top notch. The room was very comfortable an beautifully decorated. All the staff were terrific and the service for everything was excellent. We did not get a car, but were able to walk to downtown LA. The restaurant variety at between the hotel and LA Live is pretty good. One night, we were unable to get into a restaurant we had planned on because of a private party for the Creative Emmys. We were hot and tired from working and ended up ordering in from a restaurant, which also worked quite well.
