“The noisiest room ever”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Noisy! So very noisy. The hotel is located on Main st, which is obvious from the name - and it's terrible, since the traffic noise is so loud and never, never stops: in the morning you hear buses, which stop just under the window, in the evening - police cars, at night - garbage trucks and drunken people. And it is not possible to close the window, since there is no ventilation or airconditioner in the room - with closed window it becomes very hot and airless at once.

This one but crucial disadvantage eliminates all the advantages - clean room, good service, nice modern design. I would recommend to search hotel in other area, since anyway there is nothing interesting in LA downtown - it's ugly and not very safe.

Room Tip: If you decide to stay, I advice to take room with a bathroom - and ask for the one which is away fro...

Stayed here in October 2012, it is a nice place to stay - clean, modern, good location for metro system and sightseeing. The major problem is the staffs lack of interest in guest, I thought customer service was a US strong point.....obviously not here.....what a shame!!

We only paid £24 per night and you get what you pay for. Although on plus side the sheets and towels were clean. We had our own shower (advertised as having a bath tub by Hotels.com and something the hotel said I would have to take up with them) it was well in need of a make over or even a lick of paint. The headboard was propped against the wall, no a/c and incrediblely hot and noisy. This hotel is basically a hostel in a very run down part of downtown LA. So if you can overlook the surroundings or the many tramps and homeless people hanging round outside the hotel go ahead and book it .

I spent 3 nights at this hotel and while the pictures look amazing, the rooms look nothing like what the photos represent. There was a man in a wheel chair, hanging about the lobby at check in (and slso throughout my stay) who lived there at the hotel, harrassing the staff and other guests. The staff was a bit hard and having to deal with people who were so rude that live there, I can see why.
The complimentary breakfast was cereal, waffles, coffee, milk and orange juice. Not bland or bad just redundant with no fresh fruit or other options.
The room itself did not have a restroom, did have a sink and toiletries cabinet. The bed made me itch and I went to the front desk to request different sheets but was told they were all out. Luckily I had read reviews AFTER booking and brought a sheet myself and ended up sleeping atop the comforter on the bed using just my sheet.
The area is not at all that bad. It is downtown and skid row is a block away but overall the hotel room is safe as they did have security there around sundown.

I got a very cheap deal on hotels.com ($38 per night) for a private room with two single beds, shared bathroom... and wasn't sure at all what to expect... LOVED IT !!!
Location is nice and close to subway and buses, very clean, lovely cute room, very good staff, would stay here again without any hesitations :)

only 2 negatives things :
- the wifi was very very slow in my room, and was using the one from hotel next door (4th floor, end of corridor)
- when you take your shower, hard to put your clothes, keys and stuff somewhere... except on the wet floor :-s

We liked the Cecil so much that we came back for more!

Part of the historical downtown area (in the process of being regenerated), in a grand old building with an impressive lobby.

Yes, the rooms are small and nothing special but for $50/double with shared bathroom, we did not expect the Ritz. Our sheets were always clean and the beds were made each day. On our 2nd stay we even had an ensuite toilet, although we still had a shared shower (conveniently located next to our room) - possibly the staff allocated a nicer room because we were staying for 3 nights.

Our biggest concern from reading previous reviews was the mysterious foul smell. In both of our stays on the 14th floor we did not experience this at all.

A couple of tips:
1) on busy days, the line at breakfast is probably for waffles. Bypass it if you are in a hurry or just want cereal & coffee.
2) the front desk will happily lend you a fan or iron if you ask.
3) the attached coffee shop is not always open at the advertised hours - it's particularly prone to late opening and early closure when it's not busy.
4) walk up Main to the BigManBakes shop (look for the glowingly painted parking garage on your left - it's next door) for amazing late-night cupcakes! Closed on Sundays.
5) there is a 24-hour restaurant nearby - ask the front desk for directions.
6) easy to get to/from the Greyhound Station - when arriving, take the bus across from the station along 7th and get off at Main. The Cecil is a few steps to your right.

Room Tip: each room seems to be a little different- if you don't like the first one you are offered, ask t...

The worst hotel I have ever been. I stayed just for one night because you have to share the bathroom with the complete floor. I have never seen this before. There was no a/c either. Just terrible!!!! The only good thing was that the receptionist. When I went to him to ask him about other room with its own bathroom and a/c he told me that they didnt have anything. Then he told me what I had to do to cancel my reservation and to have my money back.
