“Fascinating Space and Patrons”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

The Edison is such a interesting space with a Steam Punk vibe to it from its former life as an electrical generator for the city. It has lots of nooks and places to hang out, retro entertainment, a good food and drinks. They also host some great events like their Halloween Party and costume contest. Sometimes the service can be a bit off---depending on how busy they are. If you don't love crowds---check their website for events going on mid-week.

“amazing ambiance, great staff but insufferable owner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

Were it not for the unique setting and wonderful staff, I would have rated my visit to The Edison "terrible."

Went there for an impromptu gathering to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Friday. Early birds enjoyed friendly service, drinks and food at 40% off during cocktail hour 5-7pm. The place was very dark, and staff went out of their way to help us search for an item that had dropped under the table.

Some friends, having traveled from other counties, arrived after cocktail hour. Before I looked over the menu to order, a hostile woman marched over with "I am owner, hear me roar" attitude: "You have new people coming after 7. It's $25 minimum per person, no it's $50 per person on a Friday, for use of a table." She went on with rules about reservations, payment in advance for parties. There were plenty of empty tables, and ours became one of them as we moved the celebration elsewhere to boycott the unpleasant owner.

“Bucket List Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

Six friends came early without reservations but we tipped a few people and got a spot with impossibly small tables but together nonetheless. We would grow to appreciate our spot as the place became unbelievably packed and passage to and fro increasingly difficult. The reclaimed bowels of this historic building have been transformed into a spot where hipsters, clubbers, scenesters and those with money literally rub elbows. In my opinion the inherent visual interest of the magnificent industrial salvage makes it one of the ten best interiors in Los Angeles. The world class bartenders are reason enough for the serious spirits hound to visit with the sexy dance review being the reason to stay. I didn't encounter any attitude though one of the doormen barked at our limo driver for some thing or other. Other patrons were friendly and flirtatious wihile the staff worked to enhance the houses's revenue. The food was unremarkable (even unmemorable) but not the reason anyone would go there on a Saturday night. Not a place to go one the cheap, go big or go home. Worth it to us more as a bucket list destination than a weekly hangout.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

Went here for a work party on a Wednesday evening. The place is difficult to find down an alley off of 2nd street. We had one of the back rooms reserved even though it didn't seem busy at all. They won't let you in until 5 pm. Drinks seemed reasonably priced. Appetizers were good. The decor was really cool.

“Stifled by the rules”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

So cute. So cool. Sooooo many rules! I appreciate a place with standards but too many rules it's just too limiting. The look & feel of this "speak easy" style bar is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the service (although friendly) SUPER slow. I, in no way am a drink guzzler, so keeping my glass full is typically easy. I had to wait a very long time between each drink & felt a little embarrassed that I had to chase down my waitress so often. Music was fun & wish I could say I would be back. The overwhelming number of rules, the pricy & limited menu & very slow service prevent me from wanting to return.
