If you are looking to stay up drinking in an old west saloon or are planning to wine taste until you pass out at your hotel, this is the right hotel for you. If you want a quiet relaxing stay, look elsewhere. The saloon is right by the stairs leading to the rooms and the place is old an sound carries. So long as someone in the saloon is up, you will be too. Luckily we had earplugs to help us sleep. The hotel seems to value the bar customers over hotel guests. If we had known, we would not have stayed there.

On our way to San Diego from the San Francisco Bay area to visit family, we pulled off the road to show our son and his wife the main street of Los Alamos. We were intending to look for a hotel in Santa Barbara and stopped in for a drink in the saloon of the Union Hotel. The owner's son offered to show us round the hotel and we ended up staying in the Presidential Suite. Wow! What a place and lovely to hear stories of the past. The rooms were magnificent, with a surprise secret room, continental breakfast in the morning with lots of coffee, and live music in the saloon in the evening (it was a Friday night). The family that owns the hotel and all the staff are great fun. Can't wait for the next time we're passing through . . . .

One of the most memorable stays that we have experienced. A warm welcome greets you and the accomodations are perfect. You need more than one night to fully enjoy the history that is there. With so many choices to choose from as to which room you would like to stay in it is hard to pick. We like the governors room....The evening meal was outstanding, good service good food and something that your friends should enjoy if they have the chance. You know we will be back sugar......

We've passed through this area many times on our way to Southern California, but have usually stayed at one of the bigger hotels down the road.

On a whim, on our last trip through we pulled off the main highway into Los Alamos. After a look around, we ended up at this hotel. We were very glad we did. This was a really fun place to stay. A taste of the old west, but with the rough edges smoothed out. The saloon downstairs adds to the experience. We were there on a Friday night, so the bar was hopping, with live music and a festive crowd.

I recommend the governor's suite. This hotel definitely beats the corporate hotel experience you get further down the road.

Me and my husband stayed just one night at this historic hotel. The staff was awesome and very accommodating. Lucas showed us our choices rooms. We decided to stay in the governor's suite. What a beautiful room! The whole hotel was decorated in period furniture and decor and was a delight to explore. The food was excellent as was the service. Yes we did spend a few hours in the saloon and had a blast. Unfortunately are stay was way too short. Next time we will stay longer!!!! Thank you for a great time guys!

Room Tip: All rooms are great. obviously you get what you pay for.

I booked a stay at the Union Hotel as part of a birthday weekend with my boyfriend. We stay in the SYV frequently but had never made it to Los Alamos. What an awesome surprise! Staying at the Union is like stepping back in time - it's quite unusual and a very different experience. We stayed on a weeknight and were the only guests booked for the evening, but the downstairs was still a mellow bustling of visitors to the saloon, all very nice locals.

We browsed around the nearby antique mall and wine-tasted a block away at Bedford Winery Tasting Room before dining at the restaurant downstairs at the Union. The food is fresh and the meats are all flavorful and grilled on the bbq out back. It wasn't the fanciest or most delectable meal on the planet, but a nice rustic style dinner.

Both the hotel and its staff were incredible. Upon check-in, we were upgraded for free from the Governor's Suite to the Presidential Suite - you MUST stay in this room! Romantic and beautiful, with antique furnishings and original wood floors but a gorgeous, fully renovated bathroom. The four-poster bed gave us THE most comfortable night's sleep we'd ever had - the mattress was like a cloud and the linens and pillows were high quality. We felt truly spoiled.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. In the morning before I even reached the bottom of the stairs, the woman at the front desk asked if she could bring a tray of coffee and a platter of fresh fruit to our room. Lovely!

After checking out (reluctantly), we enjoyed a beautiful farm breakfast a block away at Bell Street Farms. It's only open Fri-Sun and is delicious.

We were sad to leave - can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Book the Presidential Suite if you can afford it. Some of the individual rooms don't have privat...

Just returned from a trip to this hotel and cannot stop raving about it. After winning a gift certificate for a one night stay in any room, my boyfriend and I decided to try it out for a night. We had an amazing experience from the time we arrived to the time we left and without a doubt intend to encourage everyone we know to stay and will return ourselves for a longer stay.

The gift certificate was supposed to be for a Sunday thru Thursday, but the amazing staff allowed us to stay on a Friday, most likely because it's off season. They even put us in the best room, the Presidential Suite. It was a beautiful room with an amazing ambience that was true of the hotel as a whole. Highlight of this room is probably the gorgeous bathroom that was recently updated. We also had a balcony with a view of the lovely courtyard below. And the 4 post bed was comfortable.

We arrived late in the evening and once we checked into the room headed to the saloon. This alone was worth the trip. Live music and everyone enjoying themselves in a great atmosphere. Seemed that it was enjoyed by locals and guests alike.

It is an old hotel with quirks, but when you go into it with proper expectations and the right frame of mind you will not be disappointed. I do have to say I don't know how I would feel about using a shared bathroom, but thankfully we did not have to.

We were sad about only staying one night, but will without a doubt intend to make a return trip.

Room Tip: Presidential suite may be a splurge, but well worth it.
