“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Victorian Mansion on our drive back to Canada from Texas. He had found out about it online. It was wonderful. Tina met us for check in and showed us the 50's room before we went to our Gypsy Suite. We were so impressed! The rooms are amazing. You really feel the experience of each room. We stayed two nights and loved the town, the antique shops, the flatbread pizza restaurant. Everyone was so friendly, we would go back again!

We love the Victorian Mansion! My husband and I go every year to celebrate our birthday and/or anniversary. The Egyptian, Roman, and Gypsy Suites are impeccable works of art, unique, comfortable, clean, and by far, as if it isn't obvious enough, our favorite place to stay for a quick getaway. The hot tubs are and extra-added bonus, they are large and amazing for a full body soak- a most perfect way to end a lovely day of wine tasting. We always look forward to going back, & can't wait till next time we are there!

Room Tip: The Egyptian, Roman, and Gypsy Suites are our favorites. All rooms are quiet, cool and cozy.

Absolutely loved it here! We stayed in the French Suite, one of only two rooms with a balcony. We used the balcony a lot and enjoyed the beautiful views with a glass of wine before and after dinner and breakfast in the morning. Everything is so wonderfully done - the personalized service, the amazing murals, the edith piaf on the cd player, french themed DVDs (and Sideways in every room of course!), the delicious breakfast. Rod, the owner, greeted us warmly and immediately. He sent up a bottle of sparkling wine when we realized we forgot to get any. Apparently they taste test all the wines that they offer to guests, and this one was delicious! The red wine bottled specifically for The Victorian Mansion and complimentary with each room was also very nice!

This was the perfect weekend getaway. A day spent wine tasting, dinner at one of our favorite restaurants across the street from the mansion, Full of Life Flatbread, and an evening in our delightful suite. Relaxing and romantic, I truly felt pampered. This was a birthday celebration for my fiance and myself, and we decided it will be an annual tradition so we can explore the other suites - only next time we will stay for two nights because we enjoyed it so much. Many thanks to the owners and innkeepers for making this such a special place!

Funky, considered decor. Clean and well maintained. Excellent in-room breakfast. Kind and passionate owner and staff. Details attended to. Comfortable bed and linens. Just what we were looking for. As far as we're concerned, there's no competition in the area (except, of course, the Madonna Inn- but this was a more personal, relaxed experience, and we liked that).

We stayed in the newly refitted Paris Room and it was lovely, with very intimate high balcony. The room was decorated with magnificent detailed murals and felt very classy and authentic something many themed lodgings far short of. There was also a shoulder deep hot tub in the bedroom, and iron work spiral stairs that led up to a bed on a mezzanine level.
The breakfast offerings were delicious and are delivered via a dumb waiter at a pre-arranged time directly into you room for you to enjoy in private.
Special thanks to Roy who looked after us during our stay and put a bottle of Champagne and rose petals in our room on arrival, as well as showing us all the wonderful different themed rooms on our check out some of which definitely made us want to come back for some variety. Highly recommend this one as a unique destination inn.

Room Tip: Nicest themed rooms were Paris, Eyptian and Roman

Even though I am relatively local, I had never heard of the Victorian Mansion until my husband found it on expedia for our honeymoon. It was the perfect place to spend our wedding night! We stayed in the Roman room and loved every minute of it! The hotel was full of character and every detail was so well thought-out. We thoroughly enjoyed the secret chambered bathroom, luxurious spa tub, and beautifully decorated Roman murals on the wall. We felt pampered with the gourmet breakfasts served directly through the wall nook, and the wine which was included with our stay. We appreciated details such as the Roman-themed movies (we watched Ben Hur), music, and remote control which even turned on the firpeplace. This hotel is a great place to stay if you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway. It's in the heart of wine country, yet secluded from the busyness and tourism of the Solvang area. We are so excited to go back and stay in all the rooms!

Room Tip: Most romantic rooms: Roman, French, Egyptian or gypsy

We had driven past the exit off the 101 to Los Alamos hundreds of times and never got off to look. This spring, we did and what we found was a small, charming old town, worth exploring! We were interested in knowing more about the Union Hotel, so we looked it up on the web when we returned home and that led us to The Victorian Mansion, affectionately known at "The Vick".
We learned from their website that this bed and breakfast has six themed suites (50's, Gypsy, Egypian, Roman, French and Pirate), each unique and beautiful.
We arrived in town at 1:30 and check-in isn't until 3:00, so we strolled around town, checking out the Union Hotel (a charming hotel with a large dining room and a great saloon), an art gallery/restaurant, the local market, and a few antique stores.
We returned to the Vick shortly before 3:00 and were greeted by Denise, who was the innkeeper for the day. Denise was friendly and welcoming and, because we were the first to check in, took us on a tour of all the suites. Each one is amazing, but she saved the best (in our opinion) for last...our Egyptian suite!
Our room was amazing! It featured hand-painted wall murals throughout, carrying out the Egyptian theme. The door is wonderful sandstone...big and heavy. It looks like you're entering an ancient tomb! The room features a HUGE leaded glass window. The ceiling is draped with fabric, giving the illusion of being in a shiek's tent. Our queen-sized bed featured a beautiful canopy and was on a step-up pedestal. There was a lovely chaise lounge, and on the glass table in front of it was a bottle of local wine and two very beautiful gold-laden wine goblets.
The long wall with the mural had hidden compartments which held the television,
dvd player (dvds were all Egyptian-themed, except Sideways, a local favorite), cd player (with Egyptian music), a little cupboard where our breakfast would "magically" appear at the appointed time in the morning, and a cedar-lined closet (bathrobes provided). There is also a lovely fireplace and a cushioned seat on that wall with a lid that reveals storage and an extra blanket.
The lights, the fireplace and even the hot tub are controlled by remote control! You can change the lighting from yellow to red to blue...very pretty!
The hot tub (no jets for bubbles)for two is amazing. It's deep and roomy and features artifacts from the owner's travels to Egypt!
Access to the bathroom is by pulling out a huge King Tut figure, revealing a lovely tiled bathroom with a nice big shower, featuring mural work. Off the bathroom is access to our private balcony, which has two chairs and a table. It's a lovely place to sit and people-watch. on the main street.
When breakfast arrived at our chosen time of 8:00, it included two individual quiches, croissants, orange juice, coffee and tea. Very yummy!
There was an issue with the air conditioning (ours was too cold), which cannot be adjusted in room. If there are any problems, Denise can be reached any time on her cell phone. And there is a space heater, plus the fire place, for added heat.
Children are not allowed, as there are many artifacts, sharp items and VERY hot water.
The 11:00 check-out time came much too soon! In the morning we were able to visit with the owner, who takes such pride in this inn.
We definitely look forward to returning! Their website is www.thevick.com.

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room! We chose the Egyptian room because it has the easiest bed to get in and...
