“Well appointed, really friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Lovely location but very convoluted access; hotel sent directions by email but too late to help us, should be sent at time of confirmation. The parking system needs help; automatic barrier a pain to operate. Room very comfortable and well appointed with good toiletries but it's cheap to charge for a bottle of water. Maid on 4th floor charming and efficient, with number of families jammed into rooms their days must be frantic. Chief engineer Mario is a gem, a consistent, positive presence, maybe he should be the manager? Breakfast is standard and well managed by the friendly staff however some notice should be paid to the children (and some parents) who take an obscene amount of extra food like countless yogurts and fruit in plastic grocery bags up to their rooms. This increases food cost which in turn increases room rates. We would return.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms have better views; seem to be given to business travelers.

Very nice, beautiful view, dog friendly. We were there for the dog show at the Queen Mary park and walking back and forth was perfect. It's easy to get downtown to the resturants and easy to the freeways.

It is very rare that I have anything bad to say about a Marriott hotel and this one is not bad but it is not great either.

Small things add up.

The staff does not care as much

The carpets are dirty. The furniture is due to be changed.

The breakfast is lacking. Yogurt is not separately packed and kids play with it. Milk is also communal and you have to bend over to fix it

I won't stay here again

We ended our last US holiday in Long Beach and we loved the area so much we decided to begin this holiday there.

With its close proximity to LAX it makes more sense to stay here before or after a long trans-Pacific flight than in LA.

And if you do decide to stay in Long Beach there is no better place to stay than here. The staff are a credit and always pleasant and helpful. On this occasion they excelled with a very early check in which was greatly appreciated after a long flight.

The only small gripe is that there is not a huge selection for breakfast which would only be noticeable after a long stay.

The rooms are spacious and the location is excellent, specially now that the free shuttle bus stops outside.

Loved our visit there again and look forward to our return. If you do find yourself in this area a visit to Catalina is a great day out.

Thank you to the staff there!

Dave

Nice hotel located close to the convention center the beach docks and Long Beach pier. Customer service is excellent and all the staff was there to meet any needs we had. Rooms were nice and clean although I was close to the street and have a lot of traffic noise. Nice pool on the third floor along with the Jacuzzi.

Convenient location, pool, fitness, within walking distance from attractions and local free shuttle around the corner. Nice view from all rooms and large lobby. Breakfast quality average but large choice.

It was a business trip, and my boss selected the hotel. He did a great job! I really enjoyed this hotel. The desk staff were professional, friendly and helpful. The facility, parking lot and grounds were clean. The location was prime, right on the water and a short walk down the beach from the Queen Mary. It's also an easy short walk across a bridge to the Long Beach aquarium and promenade with shops and restaurants. I felt safe in and out of the hotel. The rooms we had were very nice, with walk-in granite and glass showers, functional kitchenettes with 2-burner cook tops, sink, microwave and big fridge. The rooms were quiet and had nice views out over the water. The elevators even talked to you when they went up (they sounded happy) and went down (they sounded sad). Evenings in the lobby the hotel provided wine and beer and light dining fare for those who wanted to grab a quick bite and talk with friends. One night was karaoke in the lobby, and while I am not a big fan, it was rather fun to watch everyone sing to the music. Even the hotel lobby staff participated.
The hotel has a pool, but it opens at 9am, so don't expect an early morning swim.
Breakfasts are provided and included in the room price, and they are good; scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, waffles and the usual juices and coffee.
Each room has free wifi which I found to be fast and convenient.
The only negative comment I would have is finding the hotel from the street. It is neither easy nor intuitive, and any parking requires you to pass through a turnstile gate with a paper ticket.... Maybe necessary, but awkward. Still, all-in-all a very nice hotel if you are ever traveling to Long Beach on business or pleasure.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view out over the water that catches the morning sunrises.
