Really nice place where you get the feeling of past times. Rooms really sweet, ask for a room that faces the sea. Go for a strawl on deck or to the bar at the front of the boat where there they play life music.
Location not the best for going for a strawl as there is nothing in the surrounding, need a car to get around from there.

Excellent stay, quick check in, deluxe room was nice, bed big and comfy excellent selection of TV channels, good view of long beach and a courtesy bus to take you to downtown long beach. When ordering room service note the pizza is for 2 the thing is humungus lol. The ship was good and very interesting very historic def worth a stay at least for one night.

Room Tip: Get a window room facing downtown Long Beach for a great view.

We are local... I remember the Queen Mary (and Spruce Goose) first heading to Long Beach.. and yet, I've never eaten or spent the night...until last night... what a GREAT experience... the ship is Much nicer than expected, our room (deluxe through a one day sale my wife found) was 2-3X larger than anything we had in a recent trip to Europe... We just 'toured' the ship and enjoyed each of the 'museum' displays spread throughout the ship... The Sunday Brunch (a Groupon deal) was as good as any... We road our bikes about 20mls to the north, backpacks on, with a nights clothing. We had a Blast... There is even a free shuttle that takes you into Long Beach... for events, dinner, etc... a fun $1 bookstore on Pine was a find... as was the Corned Beef/cabbage at the Auld Dubliner... this is the cat's meow for staycations...

Room Tip: Def. get the Deluxe room

Descent size room with great views. Perfectly restored art deco style all over ship. We loved the bar/lounge on the top floor. Comfy bed. paid about 90 bucks/night in September. We will probably stay there again.

I satyed on the HQM with husband and teenagers while visiting LA. We really enjoyed our experience . HQM is not an ordianry hotel, it is like travelling in time...I realized that I would not cross the ocean on such a ship because the rooms are not as comfortable than that of modern ship. But you sleed on the HQM for the experience, not for the comfort...we did the ghost tour and really enjoyed it. My daughter and I experienced some spooky moments...I recommend the HQM for anyone who loved the era of big ships - it is a unique experience...

Room Tip: take a first class cabin for more comfort - do the ghost tour - it is a unique opportunity to visit...

i had a great room with a king size bed for the money you really can"t go wrong
so much history on this ocean liner . lots of Guided tours to keep you busy.
very historical . there's a free bus you can take if you want to visit the shore line
marina that runs every 15 mins ..it takes you in town and back with many stops along
the way hop on and hop off its free . if you have a car you can use your room key to
get in and out of the parking lot . so no cost for parking ...there's also a Russian Attack Submarine Scorpion of the sea a self guided tour .....park next to the Queen Mary

Room Tip: stay in a room with a port window this way you have a view of the marina

(I stayed on the Queen Mary back in February and am just now catching up on writing my reviews.)
One of my hobbies is learning about the great ocean liners. I love them, so I am very glad I visited and walked the decks of the Queen Mary. You might expect I would be singing the praises of staying here. However, I believe spending the night here is a pitfall-filled gamble. You might get lucky and not have anyone in the next cabin or you may have quiet folks in the next cabin. But let's be frank: you can hear the person in the next cabin clear his/her throat. You can hear them yawn. You can hear everything because the walls could not possibly be thinner. I was there two nights and the first night the couple next door argued for hours and hours and did other things when they were done with that. The next night I could hear the new occupants of the same cabin next door do everything they did until they went to sleep. If you have a restful experience it will simply be luck. The owners could have kept the cabins historically accurate while also making this a place you can count on sleeping in. You cannot count on sleeping here b/c the management decided to cut corners and apparently don't care if you come back.

I have never seen worse service anywhere in any situation. Wait staff have clearly not been trained to achieve even basic snack bar standards. They cannot give accurate information, cannot accurately fill orders, and seem amused customers (and I am not even talking about me here) are upset and annoyed.

From what I can tell the two types of folks who stay here are folks who are attracted to the novelty of staying on the QM (but discount the bad reviews) and those who are sort of roped into staying here because the convention they are part of has booked a block of rooms here. Seems as though there are lots conventioneers who end up staying at the QM b/c their group is holding an event here. Depending on the convention, that can mean drunken revelers stamping about until late.

As far as visiting the ship, it is a delight to see what are really the remains of or a shadow of the QM. Still, it is nice to have this shadow of the QM to help us see the size of her. For me, and I am not alone, the whole "haunted Queen Mary" approach to marketing her is just sad and tacky. Just all part of the down-market approach the managers have taken to selling the experience.

If you have an interest in ships, by all means walk her decks. Then go get a good night’s sleep in a hotel that might have an interest in having its guests return. This place does not expect you to stay here again, and they look for every opportunity to display this.

Thanks for the feedback and we are really disappointed that you were not 100 percent pleased with your experience aboard the World Famous Queen Mary. There is nothing tacky about our marketing - Time Magazine has named us one of the top-10 most haunted places in the United States - look it up. You can choose to believe or not to believe - but to say it is tacky is really unfair.

We also offer many historic tours, we have added some interesting exhibits and are working on a huge announcement shortly as we focus on education and history of this beloved ship. Ownership has not cut any corners - in fact they are investing millions into the preservation and renovation of this wonderful ship. Log on to our website for a list of some of the many projects we have in progress.

In regard to the sound issue you are reporting - we do apologize for the inconvenience. Our ship was designed to be at sea and with that came white noise that would cancel out the sound...we only hear this during busier nights aboard the ship. We have complementary ear plugs available at the front desk.

We apologize for the minor inconvenience and we would love to have you again soon!
