“Very nice hotel, but farthest from the convention center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2010

Rooms and lobby were airy, updated, well-appointed, quiet and comfortably nice as were the staff. Beautiful large bathroom and amenities, and quality bed, bedding, towels, and robes. We were in town for a conference, and able to walk to the convention center - a far, hot walk even in October- at which point we realized our hotel was the farthest of its equivalents at the opposite of the street. That said, we had wonderful restful sleep, lots of space, and great showers. Overall, the hotel experience itself was excellent.

We walked to several of the nice bars and tapas and Italian restaurants nearby, which the hotel staff helpfully suggested and gave directions for. I would definitely stay here again if equally nice hotels nearer the convention center were already full as had been the case this trip.

My husband and I arrived to work each day a bit sweaty and winded after a 25+ minute hike in business attire and sometimes with a roller bag in the blazing sun. We had a rental car, but driving and trying to get parking at the convention center was impossible. Taxis were also hard to come by as everyone else had the same idea.

As to the car, the hotel was quite easy to find driving from LAX, and traffic was minimal by LA standards both to and from the airport on that route as well. Valets at the hotel were helpful in parking the car, and driving in and out was no hassle and no wait. Huntington Beach is only a short drive away, too, if you want to get out for some surf-and-turf dinners on the water.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. I noticed you were here in October and since then we have added a complimentary hotel shuttle daily from 7am-9pm to the convention center and downtown Long Beach attractions. Though only 5 blocks from the convention center, Southern California does have more sunny days then most cities. We hope to see you again soon!

I really enjoy this hotel, it's easy to get to-right off the 710 with a parking garage below it. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I ordered room service one night and the food was very tasty and service was friendly and prompt. They offer the ability to go green and pass on maid service while your there in exchange for a $5 food voucher or 1000 Hilton points. I will definately stay here again and again.

This hotel was booked for the Friday and Saturday before our Carnival Splendor Cruise.
We booked the cruise and park special. The hotel is very clean and had a business feel.
No free wifi available to the rooms. 2 computers available with printers at the business center. The swimming pool is shallow with a hot tub that was nice. The room service was very expensive. The staffs was very nice and wants to please you. Had a wonderful pillow menu service. We were given transportation to the cruise port with free parking for the rest of the week while we cruised. Would use the Hiltons @ Long Beach again.
Would recomment to eat at Bubba Gumps , the hotel will provide transportation before 9 pm.

My daughter attended the AMDA Convention and we were invited to tag along... very happy we did. The hotel was lovely and every employee we encountered was very kind and courteous. When we first arrived, one young man, sensing we were a little nervous about walking in an unfamiliar area, went out of his way to drive us (by Hilton courtesy van) all the way to the Hyatt/Convention Center to meet up with my daughter. My only regret is that for the life of me, I cannot recall his name. The next morning, he even took the time to remember/greet us and ask how our visit was going and could he help us in any way. I call that remarkable. Imagine, kind & courteous people away from home!

The in-house restaurant was very nice, though a bit pricey for breakfast - $18 for the buffet, but it was impeccable and the service was every bit comparable to any very nice cruise ship.

We certainly are not wealthy people, yet, humbly let me state that my own home is lovely, and because of that, many times my hotel experiences have been a sad comparison. Often on vacation, I have counted the days until I could leave for home. Not so here. Why there would be any negative feedback regarding this Hilton is beyond me.

So, if you read nasty comments re Hilton-Long Beach, please trust me - ignore them. They simply are not true.

We stayed overnight, and were wowed by the politeness of the staff, the beautiful facilities, and the professionalism of all who served us. They were wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms very clean, and the breakfast buffet (included in our package price) was very good (except the pancakes, which were solid little disks!).

Overnight parking for $15 was a bit of a rip (two blocks down the road you can park for $5, but whatever....), but we had a great experience, and would stay there again. BTW, there's no way to walk to the cruise ships (you must take a taxi or shuttle), but it's a great walk down to the pier and all the goings-on down there.

My fiance and I stayed at this hotel overnight to connect with our cruise leaving the next afternoon. The hotel had a great style about it and the staff were overly perfect. We stayed on the 13th floor-great room, modern style-very comfortable bed and nice big bathroom. Walking distance to a couple of great restaurants/bars. We used the gym facility...very new equipment and well placed. The breakfast was great. We ordered from the menu rather than going for the buffett- we did notice the food was taking a bit to come out of the kitchen but so did the server as well as she provided us with a huge plate of fruit and pastries! We didnt even need to complain. Not to mention we were pretty much full by the time our overly portioned by delicious breakfast arrived. Overall perfect stay.

My son is a competitive swimmer, and we often have to stay in Long Beach. We have stayed at several of the larger chains on Ocean Blvd. and returned to the Hilton this time, we will never go back. Our experience at the Hilton this time ranks as one of the worst in recent memory, and travel often. Next time we will go back to the Renaissance, we had actually gotten the two hotels confused, and I don't understand why Renaissance doesn't have better reviews.

Here are some things that you need to know when you book at this hotel:

The wall are PAPER THIN! Even though we were on what the hotel advertises as a "quite floor" we were able hear the couple next door return to their room at 1:00am and proceed to "get busy" for the next three hours! We could hear EVERYTHING, not to mention the banging against the shared wall! You can hear showers and toilets from either side of your room, and the pipes are loud! I resorted to earplugs the next night.

Our room was on the "executive" floor, I went outside of the offered group rate because we like the flexibility of the snacks that we were lead to believe by central reservations were available on this floor (Once again that was at the Renaissance). Well, there isn't. Basically there is no advantage to staying on that floor for the extra expense. The "robes" were not in our room, and I had to call to get those delivered ( that took an hour) as well as the set up for the coffee maker. The air system in the room was so messed up that every morning we woke to puddles of water and condensation on the windows. The "view" was of the very large building next to us. One plus was that the windows are able to be cracked open a bit, but that still didn't help the moisture and condensation in the room.

The bathroom faucets were in need of repair, and barely functioned.

We were lead to believe from Central Reservations that there was a continental breakfast included in the price of the room in the non-exsistent "lounge" on our floor. Or, you could get a full breakfast if you wanted in the restaurant. Remember, there is NO LOUNGE. So we went downstairs to get breakfast, only to find out that the "coupons" were for a cold breakfast. The wait staff was great, and actually honored what we thought we were getting, which was a full breakfast buffet. They mentioned that this confusion has happened before.

Later,we ate dinner in the only restaurant at the hotel with a group of 5. The service was terrible, and the restaurant was definitely understaffed. The waiter messed up most of the orders and we had to send food back. And beware, the horrible dinner for 5, which included a sandwich, 2 people ordered pasta, 2 ordered chicken dishes was $180.

The room is decorated pretty, and the bedding very comfortable, but none of that makes up for how horrible the service and quality of this hotel is. I have no idea why it has so many positive reviews. Also, it is the last hotel on Ocean Ave. Many of the others are closer walking distance to restaurants, etc. you are stuck there unless you want to get in your car, or take a long walk. We wont be back, and we definitely know the difference between the hotels now. Also, just know that self parking is still expensive, and there are travels taxes that will increase your final bill.

I was disappointed to hear of the problems you encountered during your stay with us and we are researching to see if you reported any of them during your stay so we could fix all of the physical problems with air conditioning and bathroom faucets. As you can see by many of our other reviews, the service you encountered was not typical of our hotel and certainly not what we strive to provide. It appears as well that you were not aware of our complimentary shuttle that runs daily from 7am-9pm throughout the Downtown Long Beach area. Please contact me directly so we can discuss further. Our goal is to always exceed your expectations.
