“Good hotel - but over-priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 4 nights in June for my daughter to compete at the US Jump Rope Nationals. Our discounted room rate for the event was approx. $230 / night.

Check-in was great. The staff were very efficient and upgraded us to a harbor view room. The room was good but smaller than other typical hotels of this standard. There was no fridge in the room - this was available at $50 / day. There was free wifi - but only because I took a Hyatt loyalty card at check-in. Breakfast wasn't included and was c. $20 per head for buffet.

The location is very convenient for the Convention Center and also the beach, the Queen Mary and the Carnival departure point. There are a large number of chain restaurants in the close (5 min walk) vicinity.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but used the bar. Staff were great and very helpful.

Room Tip: John Wayne - Orange County is much more convenient than LAX.

Green Features: I was very surprised at the absence of environmentally friendly options for a large chain hotel in California. No recycling in the room. No option for the towels to be kept over a day. Etc.

I was at the Hyatt to attend a conference at the along Beach convention center. Conveniently located adjacent to the convention center, staying at the Hyatt was a no brainer. I didn't realize until I got there that the hotel was undergoing a renovation. It was never mentioned when I booked the hotel. Because of the renovation, parts of the hotel are blocked off and other areas such as the restaurant have been completely relocated to other floors. Navigating the hotel and walking to the connection with the convention center was like navigating a maze. I could also hear some of the construction noise. That being said, my room was very comfortable, clean and with a contemporary look. My room had a harbor view which was very nice. I was also in walking distance from several restaurants, offering a variety of food. The staff was very courteous, friendly, and attentive. The Hyatt should be very nice when the renovation is over.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 4th of July weekend and loved our bay front view from the 14th floor. The room was very modern and super comfy. With as many people as there were, kids, and dogs....I thought it would be noisy and that we would not sleep..It was surprisingly quiet and the best Ive slept in a hotel!! The pool with a view was fun for me and my kid because we went in at 10am and it was pretty empty..The valet personnel was very friendly....Because of the room, i may go back...Unfortunately the service personnel have much to learn..Here are the negatives:1.valets need to watch entry for cars waiting in line behind other cars .. we sat there 20mins behind another group of cars before we realized that many ahead of us were just parked there and not moving. 2.Older filipino man that worked at front desk on july 4th late afternoon should look up at a person when they are talking to him..he was rude and arrogant..3.housekeeping did good job cleaning but first day no body wash and next day no shampoo, but double conditioner.details people! 4. Waitress at restaurant seemed like she did not want to be there.finally got her to crack a smile at the very end, but wow..Food was ok..5..Starbucks in lobby is awesome!! But being told that they arent making anymore fraps and its only noon and you waited in a very long line to get it is NOT awesome! Also ,how do u run out of tall cups?? After I watched two others storm off mad, I suggested they go down the line periodically and let people know what they are out of.So they finally did.but u close at 3pm?? Ugg .6.Pool is like a daycare at night.I found it entertaining but for those looking for an adult atmosphere..well forget it.7. Please fix the soda and ice machines..parents were letting their kids roam alone on different floors to get soda and ice. Scary that they did this! I have to say hotel felt very safe, so maybe that is why...If Hyatt can fix these glitches then I would give it 5+ stars!

If you want to be near Long Beach Harbor and Shoreline Village this is a good place for you. It's near just about all the good restaurants in downtown Long Beach. Don't go this summer if you are bothered by renovation inconveniences because they are upgrading the hotel and will be done by October they said. There's no lobby right now! The upgraded hotel room was ok if you like to shower. This single room had no bath tub! The day bed could have been better looking if it was leather or something like it. And they forgot to leave an extra roll of toilet paper. But the big bed was very comfortable. The big screen tv was nice. The bell men and front desk clerks were friendly. Loved the view from the upper floors of the harbor!

Room Tip: Upper floors have a better view of the pier.

I stayed here for a conference and it was hassle free. The location is great and it is walking distance from all the restaurants and bars by the pier. It is also next door to the conference center. The restaurant on site offered good food and good service. The rooms were clean and the staff helpful. It is a nice place.

Easy to get to. We checked in after spending the day at Newport Beach. Easy to get to from the beaches (newport/huntington, etc..)Valet parking is $24 daily (not a fan of that). Check in was fast, smooth, and friendly. Rooms were nice & clean, and big enough for our family of 4. Good location, just across the bridge you are at the Pikes Pier area with a lot of shopping/dining to do. We ate at the Yardhouse (this place is awesome, read my review of this place). Pool area is nice & clean with friendly staff members. Overall, a nice place to stay if your travels bring you to this area.

We stayed here for a family wedding over the 4th of July. We knew going in that the hotel was full because of a convention going on the same weekend. We liked our stay, but were a little disappointed that we could only get a room with 2 double beds, despite booking in January! I didn't know that hotels even had double beds anymore - we've only ever seen queens & kings. The room was too small to offer 2 queens, but one King would have fit.

On the plus side, the view is beautiful! The pool and hot tub were nice and the breakfast buffet in the downstairs restaurant was excellent. We were able to walk to the Aquarium of the Pacific, which was awesome! We were a little concerned after walking back from dinner on the 4th to come across a crime scene - after seeing that, I'm not sure I would venture far out at night with my family in Long Beach.

The wedding reception was also held at the hotel and it was awesome. The venue was beautiful and food was very good.

All in all, a good stay.
