“A nice hotel run by nice people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

The only problem that we found with the Maya was in finding it. Even the staff must agree that it's difficult to get to. Another odd thing is that they charge their guests $17 a night just to park their cars there. But that's life in the 21st Century. But I found the reception people and the restaurant staff to be very helpful and pleasant. This was a family visit and we were only there for two nights, but it's always nice in a restaurant when a senior executive comes around the tables to introduce himself and to take an interest. The service in the restaurant was very efficient, respectful and good-humoured and, of course, the food was just right. We had a slight problem, that was all my fault, but the housekeeping staff handled it perfectly professionally. The RMS Queen Mary is a major attraction nearby, and Long Beach itself is an attractive resort.

Room Tip: Every room has a balcony; some have a good view of the Queen Mary, some do not.

We went on this weekend get away for a little r & r and it was perfect. We had a water view room overlooking the Queen Mary and it was very nice. The grounds were very well kept, tiki torches at night and fire pits to sit around were just relaxing. For got our swim suits or we would have enjoyed the heated pool. We lucked out on the weather for January. Mid 60's was perfect for our bike ride along the Beach with can be rented from the Hotel

Room Tip: Pick a marina view room. Over looking the Queen Mary.

Great to hear....We are very happy to hear you had a relaxing and enjoyable getaway at our hotel. Rising bikes around the waterfront and relaxing by the fire pits is exactly what this hotel was designed for. Come back soon!

Parking lot is almost impossible to navigate. Not manned, and the machine tries to get $17 from you every time you try to leave. Office people have arrogant attitude and do not even try to be helpful. Room stank of cigar smoke. Room was ratty, carpet worn, furniture dinged. TV didn't work. When we asked for a room change, we were told that our room and all rooms there were "no smoking rooms." When we insisted, we were accommodated with more attitude. We were given a much better room in a much better building, and could not help but wonder why we were given such a lousy room in the first place when we had booked several weeks in advance and paid full rate. The hotel is out of the way, dark, doesn't really feel safe, and overall leaves a grungy impression. I would urge anyone to stay elsewhere.

Thank you for writing a review about your recent stay at our hotel. We are very sorry you were unhappy with our guest rooms and regret that you had to move during your stay. We appreciate your feedback and will keep your comments in mind while we work to improve our guest experience. As you will see based on other reviews below, this is not a typical experience at our hotel. We hope you’ll stay with us again and change your mind.

My 13 year old daughters and I stayed here while they attended a dance convention at the Hyatt. It was so nice to be just minutes away from the convention hotels but miles away in ambiance! The Maya is a boutique type hotel with beautiful, unusual decor. The beds were very comfortable, there is a mini fridge and good size desk. The location is just across the harbor next to the Queen Mary, a bit hard to get to get to because there are many exits for the piers, but literally 5 minutes from downtown. The restaurant is good and you can walk to the Queen Mary for meals too. Theres a free Long Beach shuttle that runs every 15 minutes which was great because then you don't have to pay for parking downtown. Besides being a great location and beautiful facility, it was the staff that really made our stay wonderful. They accommodated our every request and did so with a smile. They truly seemed happy to be there and to help us. I wish I needed to go back to Long Beach so I could stay there again.

Hotel Maya is stylish in 60s retro fashion, in a scenic location near the Queen Mary in Long Beach harbor. Rooms are comfortable, views are good, but common areas are minimal. No more to day but I have to get to 200 characters.

Room Tip: Make sure your room number starts with "1" with a water view.

Thanks for the good comments...The hotel is limited in indoor common space but was designed with an outdoor lobby, 6 fire pits, a hookah lounge and a beach with seating areas and a daybed. Because of our waterfront location and year round good weather, we decided most people would rather gather and hang out under the sun or stars than in a hotel lobby. Hope to see you back again soon!

I don't usually review my stays on TripAdvisor unless they are either exceptional or an absolute avoid. I am a HHonors Diamond with almost 3 million points. I stay in hotels as many as 90 nights a year and I found a gem in the Hilton Family that travelers need to know about. if you're going to Long Beach.. this is the place you want to stay.

Originally booked for 2 nights, but found this to be such a treasure, I extended for 2 more nights.... and over New Years Eve. Remote, fabulous settings, great views, wonderful staff (Liz). will tell Diamond desk that Mgr. Kristi Allen's responding to all TripAdvisor reviews showed caring about guests concerns. Have suggested in the past that all properties respond to their reviews. Breakfast buffet was excellent, too.

Although I was aware of the $17 parking fee that many reviewers brought up in the past, I still fail to understand why such a fee is tacked on when you pretty much have to drive to get to the property, and it's the only parking available. If you don't have any choice, it should be included with the room. Guests don't like to be nickle and dime'd with any kind of fee such as parking, or not in this case.. but other properties charge resort fees or for a safe in the room, whether you use it or not.

Thank you again Kristi, for a great getaway... it's my pleasure to post this review on TripAdvisor and will do the same when Diamond Desk focus survey/review requested...

Room Tip: Top floors have tall vaulted ceilings. By all means, request balcony room facing water.

Stayed at this hotel the night before our family cruise and couldn't be happier! Staff is wonderful (special thanks to Fernando). Gorgeous views, lovely grounds, extraordinary service, parking is easy and convenient, shuttle to cruise terminal, walk to Queen Mary, wonderful restaurant (Fuego), just perfect! Room was very nice, quiet, comfortable in every way. This hotel is a Gem and we will be returning!
