“Nice hotel for business travel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I stayed for four nights for business in September. The rooms were nice and comfortable - it is your typical Westin with "heavenly" beds and showers. The rooms were very clean and I didn't have any big issues. My room had a view of the city and even number rooms get a view of the water. I also like that they give you a robe to wear and you can rent workout gear for $5 if you didn't pack any (I didn't take advantage of this feature). There is a nice outdoor pool and hot tub.

However, a few issues... The gym was packed every morning and for a hotel of this size I would have expected a larger gym with more than 4 treadmills. You can ask for a running map at the front desk and it shows you routes along Ocean Boulevard. Also internet is not free and parking is quite expensive. My room was right next to the elevator and it woke me up a few times with the dinging and people chatting while waiting for the elevator.

There are many restaurants within walking distance but nothing that great. There are a bunch of chain restaurants down by the water near the convention center (PF Changs, Gladstones, etc.) and another area a few blocks up with non-chain restaurants. However if you are looking for a nice restaurant I think it is worth the drive down the coast to Huntington Beach or one of the other areas.

I wish they had a coffee shop in the lobby or at least nearby. There is no Starbucks or other coffee within walking distance and in order to get a breakfast snack and latte you had to sit down for breakfast which I didn't have time to do. I did not eat at the restaurant but did get room service for breakfast twice and it came promptly and the food was average.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the elevator

My son booked a room via AAA and got a great rate. He had a one night stay and no other charges. (No wireless, room service, movie, or mini-bar.) At check out he noticed an extra $50 had been charged to his debit card. When he questioned the charge, he was told by the hotel staff that it was "potentially refundable" if they didn't find anything untoward after he left He even spoke to the hotel manager.

Say what?? The hotel is nice, rooms are clean, but this billing practice is unbelievable. You can bet he will be raising a stink if the entire $50 is not refunded...and in a timely manner. Suggest you ask about this practice before you book.

Stayed 3 nights at the Westin Long Beach. This is not normally the type of hotel that we stay in, nothing outwardly wrong with it, but rather conventional for our taste. There was also a large Hawaiian themed convention happening at the hotel, which was a major turn off. We have very little patience for people letting loose in a large hotel, dressed in grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts. The room was a nice size. I found the bed to be ok, but my partner found it rather uncomfortable. While the hotel is not our first choice, the location was best suited for our needs during our visit to LA.

Rates are a little high when you include the hotel tax, parking fee $17 per day. Room is nice, coffee maker with Starbuck's and tea in room. Two shower heads, They only give you 1 robe for the room. Staff is pleasant. Room safe in the room. Room size is typical for a hotel room. Easy walking distance to the wharf. There is a store that has $1 per book near the wharf. Beds were nice if you like them soft. The other reviews were right about the hotel, but you can only park for a limited time on the street with the meters. They have a nice exercise room, but the pool is very small with a small spa.

This was the beginning of a 2 week family vacation in Southern California and was only planned as quick and convenient stop into the area after a long day of travel. The location was superb.

As a long time SPG Member (Lifetime Platinum), this was exactly what we needed. Our rooms were ready upon arrival, it had the extra bed in it already completely made up, we had plenty of space for our family of 5. Parking and access to our vehicle was easy and there was plenty of shopping nearby.

Thanks to Marc Choplick and his staff for making sure everything was just right and it was a great stay, with no unexpected surprises.

Room Tip: Great location, close to everything - nice to see plenty of stores and restaurants to choose from cl...

I'm a Starwood fan and staying at various properties during the course of a year. Normally I like Westins but this one is sub par compared to others I have tried.

Location is pretty good though, walking distance to the marina and lots of other attractions.

The best thing with this hotel was the room. Nothing fancy though, everything just worked and it had a good vibe to it.

Staff not so friendly, both check in and check out involved grumpy staff.

And, what is up with the temperature in the lobby? It's like they had the ac set to 60 degrees, we were all freezing (and we're not the type of people that normally need a sweater).

I would rate this a 2, but the comfortable room drags it up to a 3 rating.
