Fantastic restaurant in the tony Naples section of Long Beach. I often have visited Long Beach and described it as my secret hidden gem--away from the pretentious 1%/tea party OC types and the gritty Angelenos. Part of my love for Long Beach has been the great and often underrated dining scene.
Add Michael's on Naples to my must go to list when I visit LB. The ambience is spectacular, whether talking about the street level bar and restaurant area or the very hip upstairs rooftop dining, bar, and lounge area. I prefer the latter (rooftop) where I am greeted by the gorgeous and gregarious hostess/manager who goes by the name Lauren and, on weekend nights, you can listen to live jazz while enjoying your beverage or dinner.
The bread is good, especially accompanied with their sweet tasting olive oil and sea salt. The 3 times I have eaten here, I have always been given a complimentary chef appetizer....their salumi and cheese is exceptional--especially on their toasted pointed bread which brings out even more flavor. The Michael's pasta is delicious (and reasonably priced); my coworker had lasagne, which was topped with amazing cherry tomatoes. Excellent wine list--either by the bottle or by the glass.
Whether a special occasion or if you want an outstanding Italian meal, run--don't walk--to Michaels.
