“Great hotel fun place to stay!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

Really enjoyed...very clean. The air could have been set cooler a little warm to sleep. Has a card table in lobby that the family used to play cards...FUN!!! Historic old building!!! If traveling with small children ask for a ground floor room, the windows can be opened.

I liked Lone Pine. This place had heart, pride and seemed at one with itself. As opposed to so many other run-down, desolate, 2-gas-stations-and-a-pawn-shop towns we travelled through. And from the outside at least the Dow Villa motel looks to be the best place to stay overnight in Lone Pine. And what a backdrop - fantastic view of the mountains at sunrise! It has all the right qualities: family-run, historic, pool, lounge. We were only passing through, staying one night, but didn't manage to sleep much. We had a ground floor room. The guy in the room above must have been a journalist or an author on a tight deadline, as he paced up and down practically all night, and the floor creaked incessantly. Bad luck, maybe. The wifi didn't work and the staff at reception seemed too pre-occupied with other issues to smile much. Par for the course in other countires, but not the US!

Room Tip: Get a room on the upper floor - the floors are creaky!

We stayed there 3 years ago, after finishing the John Muir trail and since we can't keep away from the Sierras, we came back. Although we had on.y reserved gone night, turning up a day earlier wasn't a problem and they found the parcel of clean clothes and other bits and pieces we didn't want to carry on the hike, pretty quickly. The staff were friendly and attentive as before, the pool and spa welcome. I am so glad they switch off the air conditioning at night, as it's quite noisy. They now have free internet access, which was really useful.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the courtyard are the quietest as those overlooking the car park can bit a bit...

Wonderful motel to stay after a backpack or visiting the area. Clean, comfortable. The Dow Villa Motel rooms are a bigger, newer, and nicer than the older Dow Hotel rooms, but I'd take either. Nice pool. Located right in the center of town. Comfortable lobby, friendly staff.

Room Tip: Better rooms are the newer Dow Villa motel rooms. Older rooms in Dow Villa hotel are smaller, but c...

This place was a great find. It is an iconic roadside motel that looks like it came straight out of a movie. And appropriately it is where John Wayne stayed in when he was filming in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The rooms are comfortable and well priced, the pool is a good place to cool off in as the sun sets over the hills, and the main hotel has plenty of history.

We've stayed at the Dow Villa a couple times over the years when visiting family in Lone Pine and it never lets us down. On our recent stay of 1 night we stayed on the newer side (not the historic hotel section) on the first floor. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Nice and quiet too. A/c works great and room includes a mini-fridge. The kids enjoyed the pool and Jacuzzi with the scenic Sierra Nevada Mts. in the background.

Service at the front desk was very good. Check-in was quick. Free coffee in the lobby every morning. Wi-Fi was a little intermittent but overall ok. The location is great as you can walk to anything in Lone Pine. McDonalds is across the street a block away. The Alabama Hills bakery is supposed to be great too. If you are looking for a place in Lone Pine to be able to walk to all the restaurants and shops, I recommend this place.

Room Tip: The first floor room made it easy to load and unload your car.
