“Good place for lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

Although we are not golfers, we do go here for lunch. Nice golf course views, good sandwiches, very casual, way better than "fast food".

“Worth the Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

Played here about 10 years ago and didn't like it much then. Stopped here again on the way from SF to LA and absolutely loved my second round. I tend to like courses in remote locations because they are cheaper and less crowded. The shot values here are excellent, not many plain jane holes here. The course is hard but playable, as always, short & straight beats long & wrong. There a few tee shots which you just to have to grin and hope you drive it straight but they don't require heroic carries. It's a very scenic course and it's walkable despite the elevation changes. I also played Sandpiper years ago, which was designed by same architect, but La Purisima is far more interesting and fun.

“My favorite golf course.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

I have played many of the greatest golf courses in the world and La Purisima is the best. Always in perfect condition, the design is such that a golfer must place his shots in the right place off the tee to be rewarded. Review the layout before you tee off. A very friendly staff and a nice practice area. If I had one course to play the rest of my life, this would be it.

“Stunning Views, Tough Course”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

If you're doing a road trip down the coast and you play Pebble Beach two days before this and you STILL want to write a positive review, you can imagine how great this course is. We played on a particularly tough day -- wind was howling, but it was a pleasure. Pure golf course ... some beautiful holes and rolling hills and mountains all around. Staff was very friendly, green fees were very reasonable and there was hardly a soul around. Totally different experience than playing on the ocean, but highly recommended if you'd looking for great courses around Cali. Added bonus: smack dab in the middle of the western wine country loop of Santa Barbara!

“Scenic, but ridiculously hard and not well marked”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2009

La Purisima bills itself as a very difficult course, and it's very true. I'm not sure if there was a single hole that wasn't rolling hills, including almost every fairway. However, the thing I had issues with is that there were almost no markers of any kind on the course except for the 150 yard stake. If you're going to have a course that hard, you can at least give more markers on the sprinkler heads or put in 100 and 200 yard stakes. Furthermore, it was difficult to find your way around the course. There were very few signs that actually indicated where the next hole was or which way to go.
